This is easy enough (IIUC your problem): when using #nextLine while reading from a stream, all 3 EOL conventions are handled transparently, you just get the line's contents back until you are done. file encodings handling

Hi for the mooc I'm working on a srt to vtt converter. 1 00:00:07,040 --> 00:00:10,440 Hello. Now I face the problem that the files people provided me have different encodings. (I guess) because when I do not treat the input (for example withLinuxLineEndings) I get some CRs after the conversion eventhough I copy some file content and all the line ending I output are lf (or can be customizable. I cannot apply garbage in gabrage out because the files should work. So I thought that I should just convert first the string I read using withLinuxLineEndings so that all cr, crlf are converted into lf. But since files have different encodings I end up something to issues too many lf. Does any of you have an idea how to handle this. I did not find a way to know the encoding of a file (not the bom) just the file ending. Stef

Ok, I've tried several ways of making this work, but I haven't hit the magic button yet. The two left hand buttons are fixed width and are attached to the left side of the row. The two right hand buttons are fixed width and are attached to the right side of the row. The center textInputField is attached to the left side of its' column. When I try to float it in its' column, it simply disappears. When the view is expanded and contracted, the buttons stay attached as desired. Hi Sven! Yes, this is lot of requests to a public database named GenBank through a public API called "Entrez". I repeated the test today to send you a log of what's happening. The requests are done in batches of 500 uid's because they limit/penalize huge requests. Each uid is human meta-data, I have requested 20,000 samples, and Argentina has one of the worst connections in the world. Another problem I have is the Transcript writes everything once the exception is signaled :( Is there a way to revert to the old behavior where each Transcript show: writes to Transcript in situ? The ClosedConnection didn't signaled today, but OutOfMemory. It would be nice to know how much memory was requested on startup (this is Pharo 4 on Win 8.1), because the "restart the Pharo VM with a larger memory allocation" is useless without any numbers. Hi all, Thanks Nicolai. Your examples helped me to advance and now I have the basic possibility to modify the tree. The two methods that did the trick are #addNode and #highlightNextitem, listed below, but I still get a MNU: receiver of "selectedMorphList is nil, anytime I try to highlight the next item and even from time to time with your code example. If you or anyone want to work with the code directly please install run the playgrounds at [1], [2] & [3], select any node after running [3] and press the Plus button. You'll see that nodes are added in the tree after the current selection, but the recently added node doesn't get the selection after being created (instead the MNU mentioned before, appears). I will try to use the new created grafoscopio node and look for the TreeNodeModel which has this node as a content to get the highlight. Help as always is greatly appreciated.
