As always things are more complex in practice than it may seem. WebAssembly would be more meaningful for front ends because you can run whatever you want on back ends. web dev on front end is not doing very well with both mobile and desktop platforms dominated by native apps. Pharo is already native , so unless you really want it for websites to replace JavaScript , but we already have PharoJS , squeakJs and amber for that, you don't need it. Personally I think for Pharo is more important to have official releases for iOS and Android. JavaScript wise I think we are well covered. So no I don't think webassembly matters as much for JavaScript as it matters for other languages. If you really care about performance just make an app and release it on Mac, windows, Linux, android and iOS app stores. This the route most popular web orientated apps go nowadays ,like Slack, Dropbox, Netflix etc. We actually do this side ways and embed a web browser to your app , which I think will be far more flexible than a website with webassembly. I think for now we have to wait and see.

It's been mentioned that SqueakJS [1] might benefit from WebAssembly, and use that as a replacement for its JS VM. So far it is the only Smalltalk project that is in a position to benefit from that. With Craig's JS Bridge [2] you can manipulate the DOM from within a 100% smalltalk image like: ((JS document getElementsByTagName: 'h1') at: 0) at: 'innerHTML' put: 'Squeak said Hello World at ', Time now asString The images being used for Squeak JS examples are mostly old and the UI/UX are awkward and convoluted by today standards. But it would be a matter of having a minimal Pharo image that can run there. So you would have the power of Smalltalk development, with the ubiquity of JS runtimes. Hello, Is the Pharo team aware of the http://webassembly.org/ effort? The Browser Preview tentative is for Q1, do you think it is a good opportunity to push Pharo to web development more easily? I know next to nothing of VM binary (lol), but I am curious on how one could provide an Smalltalk (in this particular Pharo) application in the web using webassembly, as the project is aimed to broaden the development choices to something different than Javascript or Transpilers (which I profoundly wishes to succeed since I hate js) . Because what you describe feels like what we have now: "hierarchically sorted" classes of selected package. But you probably want something else?

How to view hierarchy of multiple classes in a package?

Hi guys - I'm trying to get back into pharo, and check out the advances in v5. Anyway, if I look at a package in the system browser, it shows me classes in that package (i think my terminology is right here?). What confuses me, is his I can see the hire hybrid the classes in relation to each other? The hier button just shows the hierarchy of the selected class and not in relation to the others? I'm sure at some point pharo and squeak let you see the related hierarchies of all the classes in the package didn't it? This is really useful to help understand the relationship between classes and pure risky identify useful refactorings. I can't see how to do this in pharo anymore? Is this functionality that has been lost (which seems a shame)? Or am I missing another useful browsers? Tim Sent from my iPhone

Hi, thanks for the reply. FreeType disable/reenable seems to have done the trick. It loaded up my system fonts, and I was able to select Noto Sans CJK JP, which seems to do the trick. For reference, this is on Pharo 6 #60334. I also installed this for text entry: http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~tomooda/Tekka and it seems to work like a charm. By the way your command line : ./pharo -headless Pharo6.image eval --no-quit "OSWindowWorldMorph new open" works fine. So it must be something to do with how my window is opened. I have a method that is called from the eval command line |a| a:= AppMorph new. a extent:1000@580. a color: (Color r: 0.13 g: 0.13 b: 0.13 alpha: 1.0). a sticky: true. a openInExternalWindow. a owner osWindow title: 'My App'. perhaps the problem lies here. It's strange - if I run: ./pharo -headless Pharo6App.image eval "MyApp run" then I get the error: /libSDL2-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory/ But the main pharo window opens up followed by my OS WIndow. Hi. I played with such idea few month ago. And it was worked. I use this script on Mac: ./pharo Pharo6... eval --no-quit "Author useAuthor: 'test' during: [ OSWindowWorldMorph new open]" where "pharo" was script for headless run. Maybe Author do not need anymore. There was issue around it. I think your error (libSDL2 not found error) not depends on headless mode. And it would be same if you open external window from normal pharo UI.
