Mathieu This is really strange, I also got the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I imgaine that you are working with a 50 image. We may have introduced a regression. As a general principle I tried to publish often. Now you can also get in this situation when you open twice the same image and do parallel edits. Can you open your change file with emacs and see a bit the code? Peter, Sorry for not reading your post properly, yes you write that Spec offers the option to write adapters for other back-ends. So I think the issue is to try to come up with an example which uses some other adapters, e.g. XHTML (--> phonegap?) Maybe I manually renamed the image, that's definitely possible, but i don't remember re-renaming it to its prior name. Moreover, when doing so you end up with a new .changes file which is very small and has the source code of the methods you modified and I don't have any small .changes file. Clearing objects from .changes

Is it possible to remove all references to a class after it has been removed everywhere? I probably messed up with .changes...

Hello, I would just like to report something that happened to me today. As I was working on a project, I tried inserting an instance variable to one of my classes. Starting from this moment something became very weird. First, some subclasses were not listed as subclasses anymore, then I realised during the execution that allocating my new instance variable was actually modifying another instance variable. I tried digging up a bit and I found out that many of my methods were a complete mess. When browsing with Nautilus the title of the method was for example: "addProperty:key:". However the corpse of the method was totally random with something like that for example: "ient; width: 1. graphic strokeStyle: _strokeStyle" So, reportedly, the name of the method was "ient;" ... Basically I had many methods where the source code was just random chunks of other methods. The funnier thing is that everything worked perfectly fine during execution. I tried to look at different backup images I had to see when everything began to go wrong and I realised I had been working with broken source code for about a week. So if I understand correctly, I probably messed up with the .changes file (I don't remembr how but maybe I copied the .image without the .changes or renamed the .image or i don't know). And now the compiled code is okay but the source code is lost so everything is working fine until the system tries to recompile everything ? Now my question is : is there a way to fix the issue ? I tried exporting the package to a .mcz but I had bugs everywhere. I imported the old working package to an .mcz and tried browsing the differences with the broken one just to manually get back eveything I changed during this week. There is also a stack vm that works with ordinary images, but it lacks JIT compilation therefore a lot slower than cog. Hello Stephane Thank you for the 3rd video. This is a great demo! As it is SVG export http://localhost:1701/cardwall-client adapts nicely when resizing the browser window. This includes the text size which now matches the one in Pharo. An issue still is that text does not wrap in the cards. StringMorphs are used inside a subclass of Morph. To do the same thing with Smalltalk, i think you have CogDroid or PharoDroid that embed a smalltalk vm in a native mobile app. When Bloc Widgets will be available, it should be easy to provide a "wonderful" mobile-specific widget layer. I mean when you have such a framework, people get attracted, although Kivy was likely developed the other way: developed for Python because Python is well know and widely used. Wait, there is already in-image support to obtain the current locale and language setting. Did you try Locale current ? (and there is a setting to enable its obtention automatically on startup). I tried making store benchmark based on caching settings on Windows which look like this: http://www.windows7library.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Write-Cachin… both options checked: desktop 690 per sec, laptop 490 per sec caching checked (enabled), second one not checked (which is default setting): desktop 18 per sec, laptop 480 per sec neither checked: desktop 17 per sec, laptop 9 per sec All is still very far from more than 20 000 on linux in virtual box on the same PC. Also pretty curious how it has different influence on them. I should note that desktop HDD is much older - laptop is 3 years old, but desktop HDD is WD Blue WD6400AAKS made almost 8 years ago. However, disc monitoring utilities report that it is in perfect health (but still old, technologies improved since then I believe). Well, Peter posted here his results on his Windows XP and it is slow on his PC, too. About those non-latin characters... lots of these benchmarks are made on compilation of ASCII characters as far as I know, without our project ever loaded. I tested whole loading also on Roassal2 package where I don't expect non-ASCII characters (any way to find out for sure?). Jan, I find it rather hard to believe you are the only Windows users for who #flush is slow. This is such a fundamental operation that it should have been caught earlier. Remember that the Pharo code itself is cross platform identical. Anyway, that is how I feel it. Just an idea: does your source code contain non-Latin-1 characters (i.e. WideStrings), even a single one ? Maybe your name itself (the Ä). #flush on a stream means pushing all data to the final destination, clearing buffers, doing actual network transfers. What can happen when you disable that ? That some data does not arrive where it should I guess. Mind that #close most of the time does an automatic/implicit #flush. I'm experimenting with commenting the flush automatically by startup script and loading now takes reasonable amount of time ( StandardFileStream compile: 'flush'. ). I haven't found any drawbacks so far, but it doesn't mean anything and that "manual" flushing probably is there for a reason, what is the reason?
