It is so very sad. Sad that it was done and sad that it can be done. There is no real way to stop them or it would end our open societies. They must decide not to kill innocent people. The only ones who can get them to decide that is complete, global and total condemnation from the Ummah. Unfortunately, there are high numbers of Imams who issue Fatwas in support. And the majority of the Ummah are too scared to object. For instance, a top Jordanian Salafi Sheikh stated it was permissible to kill Israeli women and children. Oh, really? If we can't trust Imams to promote non-violence and the Ummah is required to step up, it all rests on the Mu'minoon picking up weapons against these Quranic terrorists and actively sending these Munafiqoon to Jahannam. Hi, In Colombia we had very violent and bad times at the 80's and that bad press endures until today, even despite of being a country full of wonderful people and places. And yes, I think that we need to make something. It's curious because programming tries to remain abstract but programmers are concrete people with countries, families, ties. I'm trying an alternative approach that binds programming to the reality by not starting with the sad/uninteresting "hello world examples", but with making sense of a complex human world by using data. Usually that means scraping data, think of it as a political construction instead of a "neutral" one and a critical approaches to problems. I'm not saying this is some kind of "solution", but another place to start thinking in how our everyday programming language and environment can help to build democracy and understanding by education, instead of being co-opted by the language of war. Hi, I have had a wonderful time in Smalltalks 2015 in Argentina, and for a novice but involved practicioner in this event I don't see a lot of balkanization between communities or internal fights. Most of us attending the event could talk and enjoy each other without any concern about using Gemtalk, Squeak, Cuis, Pharo etc. I share the Steph's claim about not fighting different and worth visions inside the smalltalk community, for me the real difference (or "fight" if you want) is with other visions of what computing could be, most of the inherited from unix paradigm and its development approaches (dead files, separed IDE, balkanized tools, etc). My reading is that different communities of Smalltalk doesn't talk that much in EEUU as in Argentina/Chile or Europe. They're more atomized and without the vitality that came from researchers and students in universities (with maybe small exceptions), so this sense of balkanization is bigger and there is a lot of pressure on being popular (from TV shows of young people being popular in school to discovering the next big thing in startups and technology). I think that to invent the future we need to be released of the popularity narrative and to have strong community ties to explore/build/communicate that future together. typers in Pharo

Hi, apparently neither RoelTyper nor RefactoryTyper is capable of doing elementary type inference for methods, such as [[[ cls := Object subclass: #Something. cls compile: 'method ^ 1'. typer := RBRefactoryTyper new. typer guessTypeFromAssignment: (Something>>#method) ast body "Object " all := (TypeCollector typeTmpsIn: (Something>>#method) ofClass: Something) asDictionary. (all at: '^') types "an OrderedCollection(Object)" ]]] Of course both of those tools have different objectives so I am not surprised. Are there however other options? Roel Typer paper makes mention of Chuck, but that seems to be for Squeak only. It is terrible. France has been paying, twice this year, a very high price for fighting to the values, we, in Europe are sharing and valuing. In Europe, these recent years, France has been very alone fighting to defend these values. Where is Europe? Where are the European brotherhoods? Back ten years ago, France was again very alone when at the UNO she said no to the big lie of the Bush II administration to invade Irak. Sadly at this time the European brotherhoods preferred to follow the lie and US lead coalition. The present situation could be very different if the Europe had decided to politically exist at that time. It is very sad time for France, but even more for Europe and its values. Thanks doru. When you watch the videos they are really shocking. It is hard to believe that they shot people in the cafe. Now I heard a really interesting point from a french reporter: he said that daesh cannot destroy french, europe or democratie but we can destroy ourselves if as a country we react badly (like getting anti muslim, getting a bad society, closing our borders, voting for the ultra right) Because Marine LePen does not represent France and they got really bad solution.
