[ANN] DrGeo 14.07 "Athens landing"

by Hilaire Fernandes

Hello, Finally, somethings I can share with you, not exactly the final one but something one can play with: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21633199/DrGeo.app-14.07a.zip Please Mac OS X users, test the DrGeo.app installation, it may not work, so if you can fix the Info.plist file it will be great. No Mac here, I have to go at school for that. Windows users, I test the application with Wine it works! But I have this strange bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/drgeo/+bug/1331559 Do you have it? Thanks to test, fix, forward or whatever. Here fixed stuff, was it really fixed or does it bug one you ? https://launchpad.net/drgeo/+milestone/14.07 Things I would like for future DrGeo to make it even cooler: -Improve the user interface -smalltalk plugin to extend the software, kind of super-macro, should be a mix with the current DrGeo API (it is now possible to have macro-script, a mix of both, but it could be better) -More end user features and tools, here is a blue print for that: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/drgeo/+spec/todo-to-implement-new-tool -Reduce the size of the whole application, it is becoming DrGeo "fat boy" because of .image, .changes .sources -Have more cool sketches and Smalltalk sketch as well Bye Hilaire -- Dr. Geo http://drgeo.eu iStoa - https://launchpad.net/istoa

OSProcess question (was: Omnibase)

You are probably using an older version of OSProcess. Sean DeNigris provided a fix for this problem, as well as some other Windows issues. His updates were committed in the OSProcess repository: Name: OSProcess-dtl.88 Author: dtl Time: 29 December 2013, 1:47:22.224 pm UUID: 12ce82c2-7d79-4af1-9e10-6f914757525e Ancestors: OSProcess-dtl.87 OSProcess 4.5.11, CommandShell 4.6.8 Fixes by Sean DeNigris for win32 support in PipeableOSProcess (CommandShell package) Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2013 10:09:37 -0800 (PST) From: "Sean P. I didn't have repo write access, so I committed to http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~SeanDeNigris/SeansOutbox . Sometimes on Windows (e.g. seemingly when there are quoted command line arguments), the argument to #waitForCommand: and command: must be wrapped in $". I don't think there is any harm in always doing this (on Windows), but wanted to get feedback from Dave first... OSProcess-Win32-SeanDeNigris.11 - Supply shell flags valid for Windows (i.e. '/c'); shell commands via PipeableOSProcess are now working, with two restrictions: - no access to stdout - argument to #waitXyz: may have to be surroundedByDoubleQuotes OSProcess-Base-SeanDeNigris.41 - Extract default shell flags ('-c') into a method, so that Windows may supply flags valid there (i.e. '/c') CommandShell-Piping-SeanDeNigris.15 - Fix Win32 shell by providing path to cmd.exe

Re: [Pharo-users] Coding by sending messages

Hi, IntellIj Idea uses editor projections which basically works with the AST. I saw some demos of their MPS (Meta Programming System - http://www.jetbrains.com/mps) system and they can do really exciting things. For example, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grlxLF2JDpg Cheers, Doru On Fri, Jun 13, 2014 at 10:20 AM, Marcus Denker <marcus.denker(a)inria.fr> wrote: > > On 13 Jun 2014, at 06:53, Tudor Girba <tudor(a)tudorgirba.com> wrote: > > > On Wed, Jun 11, 2014 at 11:31 AM, Matthew Chadwick <post(a)celeriac.net> > wrote: > >> hello, >> >> It's interesting that in Smalltalk, coding is still done via a text >> editor, not by sending messages to objects (except in the background, >> parsing & compiling etc). But this other workaround worked for me (at lease until now): drawOnAthensCanvas: aCanvas "Work around for the conflicting size font problem" aCanvas pathTransform restoreAfter: [ aCanvas pathTransform scaleBy: 1.00001. I understand that it copies subtree. I'm interested how it uses its argument aDictionary. Is it Dictionary of Nodes? 2014-06-17 19:28 GMT+03:00 Clément Bera <bera.clement(a)gmail.com>: > By looking at the senders of #copyInContext:, I believe it is used > in RBStringReplaceRule. Re: [Pharo-users] AST method copyInContext:

By looking at the senders of #copyInContext:, I believe it is used in RBStringReplaceRule. By looking at this rule class comment, I believe it replaces a matched tree with another tree. So I guess copyInContext: is used to replace a subtree of the AST by another tree. Ok found some info on this bugs, thanks. Sadly the workaround will be difficult for DrGeo, because I need dedicated unicode fonts for both the DrGeo widgets (menu, toolbar, tabs, dialog) and for the canvas to show messages in locale languages. In this built image, I tried with different font, same problem. Then I try those font on my dev environment and the problem does not show up. The rendering is really strange, see screenshot: letter seems to have different size, string morph extent is strange. I tested the built image with my dev. VM, same problem. Ctrl+d has some special meaning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End-of-transmission_character Squeak ( and older pharo versions) are aware on this and translate the ctrl+d (keyvalue 4) to alt+d (keyvalue 100), if some preferences are enabled (duplicate(All)ControlAltKeys or SwapControlAndAltKeys). Hi Steph, The company name is TrentoSur (http://trentosur.com) I am willing to share our experiences of using Pharo as a the server solution. However, I wouldn't call it a success story yet, six months and the fact it isn't fully deployed yet (we're at 10% of the full deployment) is not enough, IMO, to call it a success. Plus we can't disclose much about the project either. But we're headed to make it a success. :) Anyhow, we have two Pharo based apps (they share a common, growing, codebase), and I can emphasize about how solid Pharo is for servers, one of the apps ran uninterruptedly for months (no unexpected downtime in six months).
