This is not supported. BabyMock is designed to test the message flow between objects, and not the internal implementation of an object. Hi Hans, I would not hesitate to state that in the Smalltalk vision, we should make no difference between a user and a programmer: a user has the right to be a programmer. Today, in academic circles, we call that "end-user programming" if you need more references (:)). If you take some of the best known examples of Pharo, you'll see that they are empowerment tools: they are designed to unleash a maximum amount of power by helping you reach complex goals a lot faster than usual. Look for Moose, Roassal, Seaside. Still, you can do sample, autonomous applications. For example, Phratch is at http://www.phratch.com/; DrGeo is at http://www.drgeo.eu/. You can start an application by opening it in a window (i.e. look for an open method). With a few more lines, you can open it fullscreen to hide the IDE (have to get back to work to give you those lines :)). With a bit more work, you can have it running from the command line. But remember, Pharo / Smalltalk is a live environment, not a compile and run my app kind of old stuff (and very old, given that Smalltalk itself is already old stuff). Hi hans imagine that you have an image with a program composed of several classes. One of which is the starting point of your application let us call it BibManager (this is an app managing bib entries for example). This class should have methods to start processing bib importFiles (interactive = prompt the importFiles: checkInconsistencies removeDuplicates saveNewBibFile (interactive) saveNewBibFiles: then to invoke you application you can do the following 1 ./pharo-vm myImageWithBibManager -eval 'BibManager new importFiles' (check the command line option and read the deep into pharo ZeroConfig chapter) 2 you could also define a startUp method on the class side of BibManager that executes BibManager new importFiles 3 or you can (if you have a UI) you can open it, BibManagerUI new openInWorld save the image and when launch the image your UI will be open and ready to use. Hans does it make sense to you? Stef Hello Mr. Ducasse , i have a complete program of Class and methods smalltalk 80 hardcopy. The principles of Objects are understandable. But to SAVE the image as a different program image and also RUN is a problem i dont understand yet. When i klick the program exe the image open and normally the fullscreen program window will appear. Are there any instructions how to "prepare" the packages and classes for starting ? Regards Hans PS. I have many books about smalltalk 80. At this time i only want to make a very simple program for calculation to RUN.

Pharo program "examples"

If your users are "Pharo" users then deploy to STHub, provide a load script (Gofer/Monticell) or add you goodie to the config browser by having a config in one of the Pharo Meta repositories. But I assume your question is more oriented to building "usual consumer" apps like Games, a business app, online app, ...: There is no definitive answer to your question. There are so many scenarios that could be applied to "build somenthing and deploying with Pharo" that there is no single answer/solution. It depends on what you need, who and where your users are. Some examples: ============== You could have a Pharo app similar to "http://www.drgeo.eu/" for desktop or Android, ... or a webapp like http://pharo.pharocloud.com, ... It depends on what you need. You can deploy as a Windows App, a Mac app, a linux app with our without ZeroConf, a web app that runs on Pharo Cloud or (like http://spesenfuchs.de) run on Amazon Cloud. You could deploy a Pharo GLASS environment, ... Usually there are two major steps that all these have in common: 1. Configuring the image to run the program - could be starting the webserver so the web app runs (usually done in Seaside, ...) - could be starting the window that you need (if you build a Pharo based window UI with Spec for instance as the "PharoLauncher" app does) - could mean to open a morph fullscreen (similar to what "Phratch" app does to deploy) - could mean to additionally throw out classes/packages out that you do not need to minimize the image ("stripping an image") or load only the packages you need on an already minimal image ("bottom up approach") In any case typically the program is already prepared to run in a saved image, so when the saved image is opened by the end user it can be cunsumed/used 2. Deploy and distribute - for a webapp one can copy the image to Pharocloud or install you own server with Pharo and Apache or Nginx - could mean to just copy the OS specific virtual machine (VM) + image to a desktop machine (or as ZIP), (on Windows adopt the Pharo.ini to run this specific image) - provide a simple bash script so the packages are downloaded for a unix like scenario (following ZeroConf) - provide a PPA/DPKG like distribution as Pharo does for Ubuntu http://pharo.org/download - could mean to have a "one click" similar to the "Pharo one click" with all the virtual machines and the image (so it runs portable on different operating systems), this is usefull for memory stick like deployment (see the "portable" ZIPs in http://files.pharo.org/platform/) - could mean you build a custom VM with an own icon - for instance for a Windows.exe, optional own plugins and an own setup/installer like Pharo Launcher provides (or use the Pharo.exe with Reshacker to exchange the icon) Some pointers: LOCAL INSTALLABLE APP ===================== look at PharoLauncher http://www.smalltalkhub.com/#!/~Pharo/PharoLauncher It even comes with a setup (using NSIS installer) or Phratch (http://phratch.com/) You can download them for end user or install them in Pharo. BabyMock2: Stubbing individual methods from existing instance?

Hi, I'm porting unit tests to BabyMock2 from another mocking framework (DoubleAgents from VW). Some tests wrap an existing domain object in order to exercise some of its code, while controlling the return value of one of its methods (one method is stubbed). I'm guessing this is technically possible in BabyMock2, since it uses the same approach as Ghost proxies, but the readme does not show howâ¦ is it currently possible ? I totally agree, this is unacceptable. However, I did some tests, and the problem is with Glorp (or any of its sub packages). Unlike in C/ C++ world where packaging creates an exe, Smalltalk has no packaged content for its program. Similar to Smalltalk is Java that packages its code / compiled bytecode as a jar . This jar can be "executable" but per se what it does is to start a JVM with loading of all the necessary dependent jars and runs the code of the "Program/ Application" jar. Smalltalk is a little different that we package the code for an application with all of its dependencies etc in the "image" file that contains the compiled bytecode of the code written. You just invoke the image with the pharo.exe vm engine viz: ************************************ >From a coder/ programmer perspective, it is quite a shift to understand that you do not have a standalone 5 line code that creates a "Helloworld" You write inside the IDE, the required class and method with its statement. The application packaging and delivery is a little more involved. So once you cross a barrier of understanding how to write code inside the IDE and see it running within the IDE with no visible "Compile - Run" cycle. Polygons in woden

Hi everyone, I am working on some 3d representation and I am trying to draw 3D polygons with woden. I actually manage to make "the walls" but I still have to implement top and bottom parts which are not so simple since the shape can be really different from case to case. How I am actually doing it is with: WDGeometryBuilder adding vertices with addP: N: C: TC: messages and with addQuadI1: i2: i3: i4: Furthermore I have some issues with the shadows which actually don't appear. You can see a current polygon created with the code that I made in the attached image. (also notice the shadows are missing as well as the bottom and top part of the polygon). [cid:E6905B6F-F5CA-447D-A42D-BA1604AC7F5A@mobile.usilu.net] Now my question is: is there already something that makes those polygons or does anyone have any hint on how to make the top part with woden?
