saving a pharo 20619 image that has my code and RFB server causes 100% cpu utilization

If I choose 'save' or 'save as' the image locks up. It only happens with my code and the RFB server loaded. In a pharo 2 + rfb image things work fine. In a pharo 2 + my code image things work fine. 'Save and quit' then re-opening the image works fine. What can I do to diagnose what is happening? Thanks Paul

It should work like that (modulo bugs) ` denotes a metavariable adding @ means you're looking for a list of elements ex: `receiver `@msg: `@arg matches every message adding a . means you're looking for a statement (or a list of statement if you combine it with @) adding # means you're looking for a literal adding another ` means that the pattern will be searched recursively in each subexpressions even if the top one already matched it sometimes leads to infinite loops, but I don't remember exactly when ex: in 'foo bar bar' : if you search for '`rcv bar' you'll find one match ('foo bar bar') if you search for '``rcv bar' you'll find two matches ('foo bar' and 'foo bar bar'). and I think it's all > > Any help with this will be really welcome! > >

Hello, I'm trying to understand how to define a correct pattern and I'm lost with the cases where I use a method pattern and the desired code is inside a block. In the case where we search (methods) with metavariables and the code is inside a block. An Example: This pattern `a: `aa `b: `bb | `@temps | ``@.Stats. ``@.some size ``@.more. ``@.Stats2. Does not match with: insideABlock: arg1 part2: arg2 |temp1 temp3| [arg1 size]. temp1 := arg2 + 3. ^arg2 After looking while I realize that is not matching with part1: arg1 part2: arg2 |temp1 temp2 temp3| arg1 size. temp1 := arg2 + 3. ^arg2 Until I understand: ``@.some size ``@.more. This should mean: anything that sends the message size, doesn't matter if we have something before or after, I think that this expression should match both cases. But maybe I'm missunderstanding the patterns (again). Any help with this will be really welcome!

Hi Jannik, btw, another application suitable for Smalltalk GUI and FPGA execution would be PLCs for automation of industrial plants, which you could consider to be very large robots. The hardware installation is low volume compared to robotics applications, but each plant requires many man-months of consulting for customised software development. See [1] and [2] (sections on Scan Time, Development, Discrete and analog signals). Just to stimulate interest.... "factory automation market is expected to grow from $120.0 billion in 2010 to $185.0 billion in 2016" [4]. String pseudo type corresponds to 'const char *' type.. because it passes the string by copying it on stack and null terminating it there, and then pushing the pointer (which on stack), as argument to function. That means that original string is never modified, in your case function will modify a temporary string on stack, and after call finished it will be lost. If function takes pointer to write some data at given location, you can just pass a ByteArray instance as a buffer to hold that string (so function will receive a pointer of first byte in it).. and after it return, trim/convert it to ByteString.
