Writing an IRC bot

IÂ´ve been writing a bot for a while now, with the purpose of learning proper Smalltalk and OOP idioms/techniques (IÂ´ve been using C-ish languages for a long time now, and IÂ´m trying to cure myself :D). I must say that the process has been quite enlightening so far, I never really understood OOP until now. So far I have a bot that works fine for my needs, but IÂ´d like to contribute back, so IÂ´ll just list some thoughts and you can comment on them. All constructive criticism and pointers on how to do them are welcome! IÂ´m writing in on Pharo 3. I want to split the code I currently have in 3 parts: - part 1: a couple of classes IRCClient/ZdcSecureIRCClient mirroring POP3Client/ZdcSecurePOP3Client, with the intention of contributing them back to Pharo - part 2: an IRCBot framework, which IÂ´ll likely name 'Chromia', to be released under MIT license too - part 3: my own bot using that framework, which would add all the extras like games Does that sound reasonable? At this point my code is quite messy, so IÂ´m deciding whether to put it on SThub or not yet. IÂ´m depending on http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~PharoExtras/JSON for reading some JSON file from a website. Though itÂ´s not high on my priority list, I wouldnÂ´t mind making it as portable to other dialects as possible, too. Cheers, Sergi

I think Hilaire could help here, as he knows how to make a Cog work under Android; and for me, the main advantage Scratch has on other programming languages, is that the (virtual) keyboard is not used much, so that one can, at last, program with a tablet... Nevermind. I had a wrong time zone for my new development environment in Ubuntu 13.10 (I migrated from Win7). I did change the time zone of the Ubuntu machine AND also the PostgreSQL database, but I didn't restart Pharo. Once Pharo was restarted, everything got in sync again. About Unix time, TimeStamp, ZTimestamp, and GLORP

I'm getting the following this Unix time from a REST API: Unix Time: 1387243991 Which is the following GMT: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 01:33:11 GMT And localized: 12/16/2013 22:33:11 GMT-3 So far, so good. If I parse it with ZTimestamp it parses properly (kudos svc): (ZTimestamp fromUnixTime: 1387243991) "prints ->" 2013-12-17T01:33:11Z. But if I parse it with TimeStamp it gives me totally weird output: (TimeStamp fromUnixTime: 1387243991) "prints ->" 16 December 2013 12:0-26:0-49 am Until here it seems to be a matter of printing, the underlying seconds remain untouched. But then when mapped to a timestamp column without timezone with GLORP (PostgreSQL) I'm getting this stored in the database: '2013-12-16 17:33:11' Which once read again by GLORP get's converted to: 16 December 2013 12:0-26:0-49 am (Which asZTimestamp is '2013-12-16T09:33:11Z'). Any help here? If it was my choice, I would only use ZTimestamp, and display localized every time I need. But I don't know if there is a way to map a ZTimestamp to a TZ column in GLORP.
