Re: [Pharo-users] Problems with Postmark in Pharo 2.0 with and without Seaside

by Dave

Hi, I solved a couple of issues: 1) I didn't see PMEmail is a JsonObject. Now I understand why selector textBody: is not known by the system but it's valid. 2) The "NameLookupFailure: cannot resolve 'api.postmark.com'" is because PMInterface class>> defaultApiUrl ^ 'http://api.postmark.com/' instead of: PMInterface class>> defaultApiUrl ^ 'http://api.postmarkapp.com/' ** Can anyone who has access to the project change it? ** With that change it works Dave -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Problems-with-Postmark-in-Pharo-2-0-with-and-without-… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Pharo-users] Writing an IRC bot

by kilon alios

I created also a IRC bot with python. I was surpised how simple the irc protocol really is. But my robot was very basic. I agree with Bernat, messy code is much more preferable than no code at all. Sergi your plan sounds fine to me. I think it would be a good idea to announce new pharo builds via a bot to #pharo. This is a common practice for all channels. #emacs has an excellent bot that even allow you to search through documentation. So much potential :)

Problems with Postmark in Pharo 2.0 with and without Seaside

by Dave

Hi guys, I'm going to crosspost to the seaside and pharo lists, so please forgive me First: I'm stuck in installing Postmark, I think is something wrong with seaside, because on a Pharo 2.0 clean image everything is fine So the scenario is: On Pharo 2.0 and clean image, cmd-p on: Gofer new url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/PharoExtras/Postmark/main' ; package: 'ConfigurationOfPostMark'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfPostMark) project stableVersion load. returns: a MetacelloFetchingMCSpecLoader(linear load : explicit load : 1.0 [ConfigurationOfPostMark] load : ConfigurationOfGrease-JohanBrichau.236 explicit load : 1.0 [ConfigurationOfPostMark] load : ConfigurationOfJSON-PaulDeBruicker.3 linear load : 1.0 [ConfigurationOfPostMark] linear load : 1.0.8 [ConfigurationOfGrease] load : Grease-Core-pmm.72 load : Grease-Pharo20-Core-pmm.1 linear load : 1.0 [ConfigurationOfJSON] load : JSON-ul.35 load : PostMark-Core-PaulDeBruicker.15) On Pharo 2.0 and clean image, cmd-p on: Gofer new url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/PharoExtras/Postmark/main' ; package: 'ConfigurationOfPostMark'; load. Re: [Pharo-users] Writing an IRC bot

by Esteban A. Maringolo

An IRC bot is basically an REPL interface over a socket. It's a fun project to implement with Smalltalk. I made a couple of bots circa 2000 (IRC was still a thing) with Perl. If you implement the IRC bot that doesn't integrate as an extension to an existing IRC client, you'll end up implementing an IRC client itself, which you will be able to use by your bot or yourself. :) Regards! Writing an IRC bot

by Sergi Reyner

I´ve been writing a bot for a while now, with the purpose of learning proper Smalltalk and OOP idioms/techniques (I´ve been using C-ish languages for a long time now, and I´m trying to cure myself :D). I must say that the process has been quite enlightening so far, I never really understood OOP until now. So far I have a bot that works fine for my needs, but I´d like to contribute back, so I´ll just list some thoughts and you can comment on them. All constructive criticism and pointers on how to do them are welcome! I´m writing in on Pharo 3. I want to split the code I currently have in 3 parts: - part 1: a couple of classes IRCClient/ZdcSecureIRCClient mirroring POP3Client/ZdcSecurePOP3Client, with the intention of contributing them back to Pharo - part 2: an IRCBot framework, which I´ll likely name 'Chromia', to be released under MIT license too - part 3: my own bot using that framework, which would add all the extras like games Does that sound reasonable? At this point my code is quite messy, so I´m deciding whether to put it on SThub or not yet. I´m depending on http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~PharoExtras/JSON for reading some JSON file from a website. Though it´s not high on my priority list, I wouldn´t mind making it as portable to other dialects as possible, too. Cheers, Sergi

[ANN] JetStorm

by jannik.laval

Hi all, Another announcement for Christmas. Do you know Lego MindStorms ? The last one is the Ev3 serie (http://www.lego.com/fr-fr/mindstorms/) One particularity of this version compared to the previous ones is the possibility to plug a Wifi key and connect via TCP. So, if you have this material (one Mindstorms Ev3, one compatible Wifi key), a wireshark to obtain the TCP port to connect to Ev3 (See the process here, only to understand why we need a wireshark to know the port: http://www.monobrick.dk/guides/how-to-establish-a-wifi-connection-with-the-…) Now, you can control your robot with Pharo ! Just load these lines: â Gofer it url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/JLaval/JetStorm/main' username: '' password: ''; package: 'ConfigurationOfJetStorm'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfJetStorm) loadBleedingEdge. â I know also that for Christmas, it is not possible to learn a new API, we all have a lot of other things to do ! So, you can play with it into Phratch. For that, just load Phratch and the package EV3Phratch as following. â Gofer it url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/JLaval/Phratch/main' username: '' password: ''; package: 'ConfigurationOfPhratch'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfPhratch) loadBleedingEdge. Gofer it url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/JLaval/JetStorm/main' username: '' password: ''; package: 'EV3Phratch'; load. â Have fun ! Jannik PS: for now, this package in prototype, it can change a lot and can have bugs. Do not hesitate to give feedbacks. PS2: I hope to write a doc for it !

Nevermind. I had a wrong time zone for my new development environment in Ubuntu 13.10 (I migrated from Win7). About Unix time, TimeStamp, ZTimestamp, and GLORP

by Esteban A. Maringolo

I'm getting the following this Unix time from a REST API: Unix Time: 1387243991 Which is the following GMT: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 01:33:11 GMT And localized: 12/16/2013 22:33:11 GMT-3 So far, so good. If I parse it with ZTimestamp it parses properly (kudos svc): (ZTimestamp fromUnixTime: 1387243991) "prints ->" 2013-12-17T01:33:11Z. But if I parse it with TimeStamp it gives me totally weird output: (TimeStamp fromUnixTime: 1387243991) "prints ->" 16 December 2013 12:0-26:0-49 am Until here it seems to be a matter of printing, the underlying seconds remain untouched. But then when mapped to a timestamp column without timezone with GLORP (PostgreSQL) I'm getting this stored in the database: '2013-12-16 17:33:11' Which once read again by GLORP get's converted to: 16 December 2013 12:0-26:0-49 am (Which asZTimestamp is '2013-12-16T09:33:11Z'). Any help here? If it was my choice, I would only use ZTimestamp, and display localized every time I need. But I don't know if there is a way to map a ZTimestamp to a TZ column in GLORP. Anybody did the "converter" already? Regards, Esteban A. Maringolo

[ANN] Phratch 1.0beta

by jannik.laval

Hi, I continue to develop Phratch, the port of Scratch in Pharo. Phratch is a visual programming language on top of Pharo. There are lots of new features: - Settings - FileSystems - Metacello - integration of BYOB (allows to build your own blocks) - integration of Color and Files - a lot of new useful blocks - projects saved with Fuel - possibility to implement new features without modifying the core of the system - possibility to customize the environment: add new categories, add new kinds of Sprite, add new blocks. Phratch is available for Pharo2.0 with the following configuration: â Gofer it url: 'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/JLaval/Phratch/main' username: '' password: ''; package: 'ConfigurationOfPhratch'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfPhratch) project version: '1.0') load. (Smalltalk at: #PhratchFrameMorph) open perform: #saveImageForEndUserSilently. â I hope to write documentations about all of the new features asap. You can follow Phratch here: http://car.mines-douai.fr/category/phratch/ and here : https://code.google.com/p/phratch/ Cheers, Jannik

News entries wanted for Pharo website

by Marcus Denker

Hi, We are posting news entries on Pharo.org (and twitter + google plus)⦠often it is easy to transform an email announcement into a news entry, but sometimes it takes quite an effort. So if you want your news to be published, please send a short text + a picture or link to youtube for the pharo news feed. Itâs much easier to post something that needs no brain power than something where one needs to think how to announce it so it makes sense⦠So -> if you announce something via mail, send me (or to the list, or add an issue tacker entry)( a version to be put on pharo.org -> if you have something where you wonder why this was never put there, do the same ;-) Marcus
