Pay attention - we are sorry and yes spec evolves over time. It is getting stabilized - the UiPainter is an experiment - pay attention that Spec got a new pass on it in Pharo3.0alpha - if you are ready for a bit of edge cutting version, use the latest version and ask questions. Moving target indeed. You may want to look for senders of openAsSpec for looking at examples. Comanche now loads in Pharo 2.0

by Hernán Morales Durand

I have updated Comanche to load in Pharo 2.0 from SmalltalkHub. Install it from the ConfigurationBrowser -> KomHttpServer I grant access to the repository to anyone which require access (just reply this mail). I have fixed several classes like ModAuth, ModAutoIndex and ModDir and now examples in class comments work. There are some issues to review yet, for example fixing the DirectoryEntry printString in http://localhost:8080/ after evaluating | ma | ma := ModuleAssembly core. ma documentRoot: FileSystem disk workingDirectory fullName. ma directoryIndex: 'index.html index.htm'. ma serveFiles. (HttpService startOn: 8080 named: 'Example') plug: ma rootModule But this is a start and could be useful because many projects have dependencies with Comanche and now can be loaded in Pharo >= 2.0 Cheers, Hernán

How do I get UIPainter to work on Pharo 3.0?

by Buddha Buck

I am trying to learn Spec (which seems to be a moving target), and I don't know how all the various widgets and tools are supposed to work. Given that there is a Spec-based UIPainter project as part of this years Google Summer of Code (recently completed), I thought it would be a good idea to check that out. At the very least, I could poke around at the generated code and get a handle on how it works. Trying to load UIPainter (as per the instructions on http://uipainter-gsoc.over-blog.com/how-to-install-it) into Pharo 2.0 yielded errors about UIPainter being dependent on certain Spec classes which weren't available in Spec on Pharo 2.0. The instructions do say Pharo 3.0, so I downloaded the latest image (as of a few days ago), and tried again. The same errors came up. A search of the changelogs makes me thing that Pharo 30448 is the change that likely broke this, as it's titled "Remove Morphic Dependency from Spec" and removes a lot of Spec-Widget stuff. This change was also made after the "how to install" page was written. So how should I proceed? Should I grab image 30447 and work form that? Should I wait for Spec to stabilize and get documented? I'm a newbie to Smalltalk and to Pharo, so I don't know the customs yet.

Re: [Pharo-users] create windows with Pharo 2.0

by Clément Bera

I'm not sure what you mean by window. If by window you mean native window (i.e. another window than the pharo window), then you should have a look at the mars project. If by window you mean a morphic window inside the pharo window, then you should have a look at spec (see AbstractSpec, MethodBrowser, ...) If you want to do a professional application for non developers, then you will have to invest some time into design/graphics anyway. StandardWindow is part of Morph so it is good enough to create windows but harder to use (you will have to spend more time on it) than Spec, which is a high level framework on top of Morphic. So I guess you want to use Spec. 2013/10/21 Paolo Piccinelli <captain86(a)hotmail.it> > Good evening guys! > > I've some questions about creating a window in Pharo. Comanche in Pharo 2.0

by Hernán Morales Durand

Hello I want to update the KomHttpServer package in SmalltalkHub. It is just one method in ModDoc>>initialize which is now preventing to load KomHttpServer in Pharo 2.0. Is the Comanche in Seaside maintained? http://www.smalltalkhub.com/#!/~Seaside/KomHttpServer If not I will create a repository for Comanche. Cheers, Hernán

I'd like to do a program usable through windows, so i need some advice about how to create a window with some textField and buttons to submit what i write into the fields. Is it correct to use the StandardWindow? Is there something else that i need to know? Thanks in Advance!Best;Paolo

More like a general Directory listing with additional information like size, type, and modification date arranged in a table. It might be that the complete path behind the server domain is used in my case and not stripped down to the last part of the URL. If I get a chance to do so I'll check this myself. No need for you to dive in. For now I found a different way to synchronize my packages without this server. Best, Manfred

Yes, this is a known issue: certificate management is simple not implemented in the plugin. Client side you can ignore this (although that is a security problem), server side it is functionally necessary. ZnSecureServer only works on Linux, AFAIK. I've said this from day one. Zodiac/SqueakSSL plugin on OSX with Pharo 2.0 error

by recursive68＠gmail.com

Hi, I'm getting this plugin error when trying to use this command to run a SSL webserver on OSX with Pharo 2.0/Zodiac/SqueakSSL plugin: Error: SSL Exception: accept failed [code: -5] being called here: accept "Do the SSL server handshake." | count result | self resetEncryptedBuffers. count := 0. connecting := true. [ self sslSession isConnected ] whileFalse: [ count := self readEncryptedBytes: in startingAt: 1 count: in size. result := self sslSession accept: in from: 1 to: count into: out. result < -1 ifTrue: [ ^ self sslException: 'accept failed' code: result ]. result > 0 ifTrue: [ self flushEncryptedBytes: out startingAt: 1 count: result ] ]. connecting := false Looking at the SqueakSSL plugin source code: -5 indicates a generic SSL exception/error, any ideas what this could be ? My self-signed certificate works fine when run using openssl ( openssl s_server -accept 8443 -cert server.pem -WWW ). Thanks

Yes, both the old(er) HTTP 1.0 Keep-Alive behaviour as well as the current HTTP 1.1 behaviour (which keeps connections open by default) is implemented by both ZnClient and ZnMultiThreadServer and subclasses. > If so, is there a way to configure the timeout or max # of connections? I just want to make sure the settings in my nginx proxy match up with Zinc Currently, the server is lazy in the sense that it keeps connections open forever, or more precisely until they fail. Normally, a server should indeed protect itself by using both a limit on the number of connection that can be active concurrently and a specific timeout for closing kept alive connections. The max number of connection could be easily added, probably in ZnManagingMultiThreadedServer>>#socketStreamOn: where a 503 could then be returned. The hook for the other behaviour could be implemented by extending/overriding ZnManagingMultiThreadedServer>>#periodicTasks. The problem is of course that one thread/process would kill the connection of another, which could be in any state. Of course, putting nginx in front is a nice way to do resource protection in production. > Thanks > > Paul HTH, Sven

ZnServer + keep alive

by Paul DeBruicker

From reading the Zinc docs here: http://zn.stfx.eu/zn/zinc-http-components-paper.html I can see that ZnClient supports the 'Keep Alive' header. Does ZnManagingMultiThreadedServer? Seems like it does from the code, assuming the presence of the 'Keep-Alive' header from the client and a HTTP v 1.1 connection, but I'm not sure. If so, is there a way to configure the timeout or max # of connections? I just want to make sure the settings in my nginx proxy match up with Zinc Thanks Paul

Pharo 3 alpha - new inspectors demo - Morph Viewer

by btc＠openinworld.com

I've just been impressed by the new inspectors in Pharo 3 being able to display a Morph (I don't think that was possible before). For anyone interested in having a look here is a quick procedure... 1. Open Pharo 3 2. Shift-click on the background to get up a selection list "find window" from which select ImageMorph 3. From the spanner icon, select <explore morph> 4. Observe that it show this as a 'Tree Inspector'. Change this to 'Morph Viewer' Another thing to try, then change to TreeInspector and expand 'icons'.... Smalltalk ui icons inspect Thats it. Very nice work. cheers -ben
