I remember some discussions about a .pharo(rc) file in the home folder that would be executed every time you launch a Pharo image. Did that eventually make it into the base? Is there a way to load different files like 1. ~/.pharo 2. <imageDir>/.pharo ? Cheers, Francois

Forget it. You can use Polymoprh Pharo widget or you need to use another Smalltalk like GNU Smalltak in Linux, or Dolphin in Windows to get native widget. Hi Scott, Welcome to this list ;) Short answer: There is no way simple way to have native widgets. Long answer: There have been some work on GTK+ bindings (in 2008 if I remember well) but I don't think it's usable. You can use Mars to build native UI for OSX. I don't know its state but your are limited to MacOS. http://smallworks.com.ar/products/mars/ There are maybe other initiatives that I'm not aware of... Native widgets?

Hi Guys, I am brand new to this list and please be kind if this is a DEAD HORSE already BUT I searched the archives and could not find much. Does Pharo have any plans for implementing native widgets? It would be a real zinger if this could be done as this sort of thing has always been a sticking point for many people (inside and out of the Smalltalk community at large). GSoC news: 13 stipendiums!

Dear Smalltalkers, Wonderful news, we got 13 "slots" from Google, that is, 13 students and their proposals will be accepted for Google and they will receive stipendiums if they will do their projects right. More exactly, part of 4500 USD immediately, part after interim evaluation and part at successful finish of their projects. We have currently 18 paired projects, that is, projects paired with one student among their many proposals. You can see that from project table, see which are currently accepted (column Acc.): http://gsoc2012.esug.org/projects?view=projectTable Now mentors need to review and score those 18 project proposals to indicate which are the best among all that nice proposals and to come with number down to 13. This will happen until next Friday 20.April, when we will finally decide, which 13 students to accept. Google will then officially confirm them in few days after. In VW we did dirty trick with overriding new and collected in info long time ago and I was surprised to see which classes where the most instantiated. logging/tallying what is getting garbage collected?

Is there a way to learn what is getting garbage collected in an image? In a part of an application I've written the Qwaq profiler & Pharo profiler consistently report that 2 full GC's (3% uptime) and ~400 incremental GC's (9% uptime) are run. That makes me think I'm creating and discarding a bunch of stuff and maybe I don't need to, but I also don't have a strong idea where to begin looking. Thanks Paul
