compressing multiple files in Pharo

Hi, I'm trying to help a friend with her non-profit website. She needs to be able to bundle files into a single file for easy downloading (and easy unpacking on the client). The files are pre-compressed sound files so further compression isn't really needed or useful. My first attempt used ZipArchive, which seemed to write ok, but I can't decompress it. (I tried to describe that problem in another email.) I'm now trying to compress more than one file to a GZipWriteStream. I copied and modified the code in the compressed method on FileStream to look like this: compressFiles "Write a new file that has the data in files compressed in GZip format." | zipped buffer file dir | dir := self directoryFor: 'hgo' language: 'arabic'. zipped := dir newFileNamed: ('foobar', FileDirectory dot, 'gz'). zipped binary; setFileTypeToObject. zipped := GZipWriteStream on: zipped. dir fileNames do: [:fName | file := FileStream fileNamed: fName. file readOnly; binary. buffer := ByteArray new: 50000. [file atEnd] whileFalse: [ zipped nextPutAll: (file nextInto: buffer)]. file close.]. zipped close. ^zipped It doesn't work. It seems to compress the first file ok, but the others aren't included. Is there a reliable way in Pharo to solve the underlying problem of packing multiple binaries into a single file? thanks much.

Hi HernÃ¡n, Thank you for your help. Although the zips now seem to be getting created properly, I'm running into another problem. When I try to unzip them I get an error that says: "Archive Utility Unable to expand filename.zip into "Resources". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.) " I'm running on OSX lion. The error persists regardless of what directory I write the archive to. This code (which doesn't solve the problem, btw) is buggy, but I can't see the bug and I'm beginning to suspect something in the VM or the class libraries. When I execute it, two odd things happen: First, in spite of the block test [sum < 100] whileTrue:[...] it continues to run when sum > 100 (or a million for that matter). Second, the block in the line: (sum isPrime) ifTrue: [ (seq size > bestSeq size) ifTrue: [ bestSeq := seq copy.]] executes even when sum is not a prime number. Call for translation

Hello, Dr. Geo (http://www.drgeo.eu) is a neat open source application showing the power of Pharo Smalltalk. It is targeted to teachers, parents and kids for all over the world. It is distributed as a portable desktop application and also a XO application for the OLPC kid laptop. As for now it is translated in English, French, German and Spanish. I would love to see more translation from the European house (latin alphabet based, there is still investigation to be done for non latin language). Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Finland, Dutch, Norwich, Danish... will be nice Translating DrGeo is less than one hour of work[1]. compression example?

Hi, I'm trying to read the files in a given directory, add them to a ZipArchive, and write that ZipArchive out to another directory. My code looks like this: zip := ZipArchive new. zipArchive addDirectory: '/Users/data/files/arabic' as: 'arabic'. fileName := 'Users/data/downloads/foo.zip'. zip writeToFileNamed: fileName. I'm getting an archive file with the correct name written out, but I can't access the contents of folder 'arabic'. Do I have to add each of the files in 'arabic' explicitly to the zipArchive? Does anyone know of some example code for this they could point me to? Thanks much and happy new year. Larry
