Indeed I am running Fedora 15 64bit. But I also run Pharo on debian 5 64bit (no Problems). But your guess (or deeper knowledge), that there is (or might be) a problem with the missing 32bit libraries in Fedora 15 64bit is obviously right and helped me to make Phao running on my Fedora 15 64bit version a least. To run 32 bit software versions, the libraries it depends on must be installed. (I did not know, that Phedora is only just a 32bit system.) The method described in the link does not work for Fedora 15. There are "endless" messages of the kind - package not available. Fedora/RedHat has switched the prefered package manager from rpm to yum. Could that be the crux of the fail? I really do not know! (Certailly I checked on my system that rpm was installed properly!) Here a description of my procedure (very close to your link!) to overcome that problem, that hopefully might be helpful or other Fedora 15 (or other 64bit Linux-) users to get the 32bit libs with yum. The procedure is quite close to that given in the link you sent. To be able to get the 32bit libs, open (or in my case - create) the file /etc/rpm/macros as root and add the following line at the end of the file: %_query_all_fmt %%{name}-%%{version}-%%{release}.%%{arch} Open as root and add the line. Save the file and exit the editor. You may use any simple text editor (I used vi) and do not forget to do sudo first: sudo vi /etc/rpm/macros After that first step, you are able to install the 32-bit libraries that are required by Pharo (or other 32bit apps). The following command installs them all: sudo yum install qt.i686 qt-x11.i686 libXv.i686 libXss.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 After that, Pharo should start properly! Or say, at least it started on my Fedora 15 64 bit. If there is something explained not clearly enough, I am willing to to state more precisely on request. My CS-horizon is very restricted - i am happy if things work without any problems. Tnx, and I wish Pharo good progress towards the 64bit version! Regards BB PS: I thank the Pharo developers for their outstanding work!

Glorp port support for Postgres native driver Was: [ANN] New Glorp Port

by Guillermo Polito

Hi! I've done some little changes in order to have the native postgresql driver working in pharo 1.3 with glorp :). To download it, evaluate: (ConfigurationOfGlorpDBX project version: #stable) load: 'GlorpPostgresV2NativeWithTests' There are 998 tests (Glorp, Postgresql, Cryptography), and most of them are green. Most of the fails are from cryptography :/... I tested it in 1.3 only by now. I dont know exactly if this may be the reason, but, are you running a 64bit version of Fedora right? I had some trouble in the past with pharo and Ubuntu 64bits. I needed the 32 bit libraries to run it. If that is your case try installing the 32 bit libraries. Just in case you are not quite familiar with installing libraries in Fedora, here is a guide http://beginlinux.com/blog/2009/09/installing-32-bit-support-into-64-bit-fe… Hope it helps Cheers -- Alan Rodas Bonjour

Sorry Mariano, didn't catch you there. Do you mean a typo in this sentence? ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfMagma) project latestVersion) load beacause even if I try to use the stable version, it still does not work. So ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfMagma) project version: #stable) load gives the same result. So I don't get where the typo is, although you may be refering to a typo somewhere else. Re: [Pharo-users] TWM: Multiple World integration

Here is a UGLY changeset, just to show you what I was talking about :) For now you have to defined your method with pragma before displaying the dock bar, and only support vertical bar, but like that you can see :) (and yes, using MenuSpec to build buttons is bad ;) but the pragma hierarchy is a bit weird, so you can't properly inherits :s ) So by example add the method: finderButtonOn: aBuilder "I build a menu" <shortcutTWM> (aBuilder item: #Finder) action: [self open]; order: 0; parent: #Tools; help: 'Looking for something ?'; icon: self icon on Finder class side, open the Dock bar :) Ben PS: if you like it, I can do a better implementation ;) On Jun 8, 2011, at 5:07 PM, laurent laffont wrote: > On Wed, Jun 8, 2011 at 4:32 PM, Benjamin Van Ryseghem <benjamin.vanryseghem.pharo(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > 2011/6/8 laurent laffont <laurent.laffont(a)gmail.com> > On Wed, Jun 8, 2011 at 4:05 PM, Benjamin Van Ryseghem <benjamin.vanryseghem.pharo(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > On Jun 8, 2011, at 7:50 AM, laurent laffont wrote: > > On Wed, Jun 8, 2011 at 7:35 AM, Stéphane Ducasse <stephane.ducasse(a)inria.fr> wrote: > > the snapshotting looks really cool! > > In nautilus benjmain added groups. > > > > And TWM has already support for nautilus ;) > > > > Cool :-) > > > > > > I would like to know if we can use TWM as a kind of toolbar and add some custom shortcuts ? > > > What kind of shortcuts ? > > > I dunno, a button like when I click on it, it opens a Browser or something like that > > > Something like > > AbstractTWMBarButton subclass: #MyDoSomethingButton > > MyDoSomethingButton>>help > ^ 'I do a wonderful thing' > > MyDoSomethingButton>>icon > ^ blabla asForm > > MyDoSomethingButton>>execute > MyThing new open. > > MyDoSomethingButton>>priority > ^ 25 > > and then TWMBar creates one button per AbstractTWMBarButton subclass. > > > Is this what you would like ? > > And someone want to do this ? :) > > > Laurent. > > > > > > > Ben > > > Laurent. > > > > > > > > > Ben > > > > > > Laurent. > > > > > > > Stef > > > > > > On Jun 7, 2011, at 10:33 PM, laurent laffont wrote: > > > > > With the help of my local developper group, I've integrated Sean DeNigris work and now Tiling Window Manager supports Multiple Worlds. > > > > > > Here's a screencast that shows the progress. Re: [Pharo-users] [Pharo-project] About GUI tests [was: TWM: Multiple World integration]

A cool thing is that with TWM I've > learned a lot on how to test GUIs, Worlds, ... > > > > I'm interested in these tests. > > Me too. > Some words about what I've learned. As TWM move / resize windows, it's better to create a World dedicated to the tests, so you don't see all your windows moving while testing (and if you use Autotest note that tests are run as soon as you save a method, quite fun :). So in TWM have a look at WMInANewWorldTestCase>>setUp and some of its subclasses like: - WMInANewWorldTestCase |_ WMWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>setUp |_ TWMBarWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>setUp If I merge the setUps: testWorld := PasteUpMorph new initAsTestWorld: WorldState new; yourself. testWorld bounds: (0@0 extent: 200@200). windowManager := TilingWM forWorld: testWorld. browser1 := self newBrowserIn: testWorld. browser2 := self newBrowserIn: testWorld. workspace1 := self newWorkspaceIn: testWorld. workspace2 := self newWorkspaceIn: testWorld. Then it should be easier to understand something like: WMWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>testTileVisibleWindowsShouldPlaceThemInTwoColumnsAndRows windowManager tileVisibleWindows. self assert: (0@0 extent: 100@100) equals: workspace2 bounds. self assert: (100@0 extent: 100@100) equals: workspace1 bounds. self assert: (0@100 extent: 100@100) equals: browser2 bounds. self assert: (100@100 extent: 100@100) equals: browser1 bounds. or WMWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>testTileLastUsedWindowsShouldTileOnlyLastTwoWindowsUsed workspace1 activate. browser2 activate. workspace2 activate. browser1 activate. browser1 minimize. windowManager tileLastUsedWindows.. self assert: (0@0 extent: 200@100) equals: browser1 bounds. self assert: (0@100 extent: 200@100) equals: workspace2 bounds. Another example: WMWithAnOBBrowserAndDockingBarsTest>>setUp super setUp. obbrowser := self newWindowFor: #OBSystemBrowser. taskBar := TaskbarMorph new openInWorld: testWorld; adhereToEdge: #bottom. leftBar := DockingBarMorph new adhereToLeft; width: 25; openInWorld: testWorld. Note that in Core there's no OB, so tests are expected to fail: WMWithAnOBBrowserAndDockingBarsTest>>expectedFailures ^ (Smalltalk at: #OBSystemBrowser ifAbsent: nil) ifNil: [self class testSelectors] ifNotNil: [#()] Now if I want to test the content of a window / morph, I use methods you can find in Morph, protocol submorphs-accessing. For example I want to find the menu that have a given icon. Here's an helper: TWMBarWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>menuWithIcon: aForm ^ self twmBar dock findDeepSubmorphThat: [:aMorph| (aMorph isKindOf: MenuItemMorph) and:[aMorph icon = aForm]] ifAbsent: [nil]. so I can test that the Other Tools menu in TWMBar have an entry named "New TestRunner": TWMBarWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>testOtherToolsMenuShouldContainsEntryForOpeningSUnitTestRunner self assertMenuWithIcon: twmBar otherToolsMenuIcon containsItemNamed: 'New TestRunner'. I can also check that clicking on a given entry do the action I want. For example, if I have a Browser browsing class String, there should be an entry in the Browsers menu. If minimized, when I click on it, the Browser should be placed on top and expanded: TWMBarWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>testClickOnBrowserTwoMenuItemWhenMinimizedShouldActivateIt |menuItem| browser2 minimize. workspace1 activate. menuItem := self itemNamed: 'String' fromMenuWithIcon: twmBar browsersMenuIcon. menuItem target perform: (menuItem selector). self assert: browser2 equals: SystemWindow topWindow. self assert: (windowManager visibleWindows includes: browser2). Finally, if you use some settings, it's better to backup them in the setUp and restore them in the tearDown, so you keep your Settings while testing them :) WMWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest >>setUp ...... backupNumberOfWindowsSetting := TilingWM numberOfLastUsedWindows. TilingWM numberOfLastUsedWindows: 2. WMWithTwoBrowsersAndTwoWorkspacesTest>>tearDown ..... TilingWM numberOfLastUsedWindows: backupNumberOfWindowsSetting. Ideas welcome :) Laurent Laffont - @lolgzs <http://twitter.com/#!/lolgzs> Pharo Smalltalk Screencasts: http://www.pharocasts.com/ Blog: http://magaloma.blogspot.com/ Developer group: http://cara74.seasidehosting.st > > Doru > > > >> Laurent > >> > >> > >> > >> On Jun 7, 2011, at 10:33 PM, laurent laffont wrote: > >> > >>> With the help of my local developper group, I've integrated Sean > DeNigris work and now Tiling Window Manager supports Multiple Worlds. > >>> > >>> Here's a screencast that shows the progress. I was thinking about a pragma-based mechanism to collect buttons :) I will try to implement this as soon as squeaksource is back ... I would really love to, and I promised myself that I will as soon as I make myself some time. Unfortunately there still much I would love to test and learn in Pharo before getting myself dirty. Mariano's blog about VM and Morphic are some of my pending accounts. So maybe after the winter holidays (Argentina's winter) if I have some time, i will start doing some more things in Pharo. Collaborating a little bit on PBE Spanish translation thou. Trying to give my 2 cents back to the community. Back to the problem: I checked in the MetacelloRepository for OSProcess, and found out that latest version is 4.4.2. So I downloaded the ConfigurationOfMagma from MetacelloRepository for Pharo 1.2...but then I found out that I dont understand anything about Metacello or how it works...so even if I tried to found a reference for OSProcess 4.4.0, i was not able to find it. Metacello added to my pending accounts list. Geez... every time it gets larger and larger. Cheers. -- Alan Rodas Bonjour

Hmm, I know what you mean, and there is people working on tools, but there is not enough "man power" to work on every thread... Yup, tried it, but the problem still occurs. I didn't know that latest version could be unstable or development version, shouldn't the one click image provides an easy way for newcomers to try pharo and it's associated projects. Suggesting an installation instruction that may provide a non stable version of a tool doesn't seem a good choice to me. Of course, one may argue that also people that wants to live on the edge may want to install the tool in its development or unstable releases. But you may also use loadDevelopment or loadBleedingEdge instead of load, and that is easier to know or find out for a more experienced developer than a newcomer. Just a though thou.
