Hi. No, in most object oriented languages there is no other way to remove an object that remove all the references to it and then force a garbage collector. The "problem" is that Philippe Marschall has apparently done similar plugin. I don't know if it wise for this small community to develop two similar plugins... I have to check what are Phillippe's plans. My idea was to develop plugin that asks information about ConfigurationOfXXX and desired version and could do building, testing and reporting based on that information. -- Panu

If instance is not referenced anymore, you can: Smalltalk garbageCollect. If still here, you can search (but not easy) for references with: PointerExplorer new openExplorerFor: myInstance. Laurent. Is the solution already able to react when errors appear in the image? For example, the shell script solution of Lukas looks for Debug.log and then suspends the process if one appears. Deleting an instance

Is there a way to delete/remove/kill an instance other than by quitting and starting Pharo up again? In my example, I installed the ContactListEditor package from http://www.pharocasts.com/2011/02/pharo-gui-with-polymorph.html After several "ContactListEditor open" doIts, I closed most of the windows. I inspected "ContactListEditor allInstances" and it has an array of instances, one for each 'doIt'. The instances are still 'alive', including those whose windows were closed. Indeed, it uses Moose but just for computing some things, and basically provides a Glamour browser for concerns: unit tests, lint rules, metrics and basic visualizations... There is also a possibility to browse concerns on the web with Seaside. Some work needs to be done to support concern history (i.e. evolution, trends...) Is there a metric server for Pharo

This time I ask before implementing something that has already been done. :) I know there are quite good tools for metrics and code quality control. However I don't know if there is any software to publish these kind of results. In Java world there is Sonar (http://www.sonarsource.org/) So, are there any tools to publish code quality metrics? If not I am going to see if sonar can be used to archive this task... someday. -- Panu

Simple plugin for Jenkins to run Pharo/Squeak VM images

I don't know if there will be any use for this, but I had couple of free hours last weekend and I made simple plugin to run Squeak/Pharo images inside Jenkins CI-server (formerly Hudson). After installation one should be able to configure Squeak/Pharo VM under hudson management. After that one is able add build step that runs Pharo/Squeak image. One can define parameters, image and script that is passed to the given image. I will improve documentation and such when I have time. However I will do it faster if there is some interest towars this kind of plugin. Codes can be loaded form the github. I certainly can understand this sentiment - problem is I am not exactly a Smalltalk newbie ;-), but certainly a Pharo newbie, and I was already compiling a few remarks about quirks I encountered like not being able to deselect a list element or getting a halo to appear (in the latest image that is, not the book image). using a Mac btw) My approach was motivated because I needed to work through the book myself before letting some of our trainees do it. Anyway the responses are all much appreciated! It looks to me like the root cause is that the argument 2.3 is being treated as a floating point value, whereas in this context it is really intended as a format specifier (i.e. a string, such as you might use in a sprintf() function). I wrote a test to document this bug, and added the fix to Squeak trunk. The test and the modified #printPaddedWith:to: method are in the attached change set. Monticello: how to update package-cache listing?

I deleted a mcz file manually from the package-cache directory (outside of Pharo), but when I go into the package-cache repository, through Monticello, the deleted file still appears on the list for that package.
