Why not subclassing? As a general answer I'd say: Subclassing is a very strong (and static) relationship, and in Pharo we have only single inheritance + traits, so inheritance is a single shot gun :). Splitting the behavior from the button opens you a door in your design. You can design button actions with shortcuts, or undo actions, and choose your own inheritance criteria suiting your needs. Just that, it lets an open door for richer designs. Now, the ammount of code for one or other solution is pretty the same too, you just add one class with the toggle behavior the first one inherits from Button and the other does not), and then the instantiation code should not differ too much. But what if: ... the program I am going to write has GUI, graphics and network access, ... may either take command line arguments or not, ... must handle cr-lf-crlf or even UTF - and I still want it to be as portable (in the above sense) as possible. seaside, grease, or sport - or something different? Here, you are not changing the mechanism of the button, you are connecting a button to a model (when i click, i turn on/off fullscreen). It's not a specific button (like a dunno, a button with 3 different states or stgh else). Good idea :) but imo, it shouldn't be a subclass of SimpleButtonMorph. I think a class representing the model is more appropriate. Full Screen Button would be nice

OK Still missing: What I really would like perhaps in the next release a Full Screen Toggle Button somewhere on the desktop.. or -like in the Chrome Internet Browser could you assign it to the F11 key? just an idea. Of course this may make things running slower :) To make sure that nothing can interrupt given process, you should run it at highest possible proirity. But then you will rely on scheduling semantics currently employed in system. VSE ObjectFiler / VW BinaryObjectStorage

Hi I'm trying to migrate VSE / VW code to Pharo. I have some "serialized" objects "dumped" with a class called ObjectFiler (VSE) or BynaryObjectStorage (VW). Those files are index files. They were "dumped" for a quick reload. I'm looking and I cannot find something similar in Pharo. Will I have to transfer those files to something else. I appreciate your help. I have some python scrtipts that I use to work with my smalltalk images. I will post them as soon as I get home (probably tomorrow) With this scripts you can do something like $ smalltalk open pharo 1.3 with cog which does what you expect although its quite hardcoded to my system and my needs so I will have to modify them a little bit before sharing to make them of any use for someone else. Actually I consider this an indispensable feature of a programming language running on a linux system. It's quasi-standard behavior. Earlier versions of squeak (eg. 3.9 and 3.10) had an installer. The VM does only preempt you when another higher prior process becomes runnable. There are a couple of things in the block class, like fork uninterruptible or so. You might want to use those. But you can also just raise your priority to the maximum manually. The relevant global for that is Processor.
