Recent Submissions

Hi everybody, I'm a new Smalltalker tutored by StÃ©phane Ducasse who gave me the project to rewrite the "Recent Submissions" tool to improve the UI and the functionalities. I've already done a basic version posted in PharoTaskForces (the RecentMessageSet class in Tool-Browser) on squeaksource, so if anybody have ideas or advice, I'll thank him a lot Benjamin Van Ryseghem

Merging

I'm trying to merge code in Pharo 1.0 and I figured out how to point the arrows the right way but I can't figure out how to say that I'm done or accept my changes. There are 2 conflicts. If I right click on the message name in the top left pane, I can pick to keep current version, use incoming version, or mark as conflict. This works on a whole-message basis. But I can also click on the arrows in between the 2 versions of code and pick that I want one line from current version, one from incoming version, etc. How can I then say that I want to use the result of that to resolve the conflict? -- Dave McCloskey davemccloskey(a)gmail.com

[Survey] Assess the cycles in your software

Hi Pharoers, and Smalltalkers in general, Have you seen waited to assess the cycles in your software? Now you can :) We request some of you to perform an experiment using DSM to see your software package structure and to fix cycles between packages. Our tool shows dependencies between packages and highlight some bad dependencies generating structure cycles. It also helps to understand dependencies. Your goal is to fill a survey using our tool. I prepared a mini-tutorial about DSM and eDSM. It can help you to understand the visualization tool. To ease the use of our tool, I loaded it in a PharoCore1.2. And there are two archives available: - the first contains an image with our tool with a model of Pharo loaded in it, so you can play with our tool on pharo itself. It can be downloaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7739334/dsmWithPharo.zip. Pay attention, the image is slow. - the second contains the same thing without the model of Pharo. Here, you have to load your code, then populate a moose model and use the tool. It is currently not possible to preserve the original formatting with the "extract method" refactoring, since the refactoring causes quite significant changes in two methods. You can however fine-tune the way the refactoring engine should format code in such cases in the setting browser. How to make "extract method" preserve my formatting?

The extract method refactoring works great but always formats my code in a way that I hate. It indents certain things way too much, adds parens where I don't want them, etc. Is there a way for it to preserve my formatting? New Engineer position for Moose

We got a one year engineer position to support the development of a demonstratior for Moose. The ***constraints*** linked with the position are that the person should have got his master in 2009 or 2010. The starting date is 1 of December 2010. The salary should be around 3500 Euros bruto ~> 2300 Euros before taxes (but after health insurance). The job will probably consist in - getting Moose running into a web browser - having a better reporting system. - building a dashboard - porting part of codecity What this of course means is that it's kind of a cool job: work in a research lab, but no paper writing, no teaching, no administration. In addition: -> live in France (one hour from Paris, 1h20 from London, 35 min from Brussels) -> try a lot of good beers (our office is just 10km from the border to Belgium) -> enjoy french food -> code all the day in Smalltalk and a bit of C By september we should decide if we take this year in 2010 or 2011 (for decembre 2011 the person should have got a master in 2010 or 2011). Hi folks. This is Pharo 1.1 RC4. It is almost the same as RC3 but with the Traits and Monticello fixes. There are also much more green tests.
