I'd be happy to write up instructions for the class, but I have not been able to get it working at all. And I've spent a considerable amount of time on it. The main requirement I have, different from SMTPClient class>>example, is that my smtp server requires authentication. Here is my best attempt based on Adrian's code below (the names have been changed to protect the innocent ;-) ... | smtpClient serverName login password messageText fromAddress recipientList | serverName := 'smtp.server.name'. login := 'login'. password := 'password'. messageText := 'From: test(a)mail.whatever To: "some(a)other.address" Subject: this is a test Hello from Pharo!'. fromAddress := 'from(a)email.address'. recipientList := #('to(a)email.address'). smtpClient := SMTPClient openOnHostNamed: serverName. smtpClient user: login. smtpClient password: password. [smtpClient initiateSession. smtpClient mailFrom: fromAddress to: recipientList text: messageText. smtpClient quit. ] ensure: [smtpClient close] When I run this code, I get a 'TelnetProtocolError'. I even tried changing SMPTClient>>deliverMailFrom: by adding in the 'user:' and 'password:' methods, and then re-testing 'SMTPClient example'... deliverMailFrom: fromAddress to: recipientList text: messageText usingServer: serverName | smtpClient | smtpClient := self openOnHostNamed: serverName. smtpClient user: 'login'. "Added this and the next line with valid credentials" smtpClient password: 'password'. [smtpClient initiateSession. smtpClient mailFrom: fromAddress to: recipientList text: messageText. smtpClient quit] ensure: [smtpClient close] but I get the same error. Just for kicks, and to prove my credentials are correct, I put together this script in Python, using the same credentials, and I get a successful email sent. import sys, smtplib, time mailserver = 'smtp.server.name' >From = 'from(a)email.address' To = 'to(a)email.address' Subj = 'test message' date = time.ctime(time.time()) text = ('From: %s\nTo: %s\nDate: %s\nSubject: %s\n\n' % (From, To, date, Subj)) text = text + 'this is a one line message from python' print 'Connecting...' server = smtplib.SMTP(mailserver) server.login('login','password') server.sendmail(From, To, text) server.quit() So there is either a bug in the authentication aspect in Pharo or (more likely) I'm missing something. There are a very limited number of methods in then SMTPClient inheritance tree that can be used for this, and I've tried a bunch of combinations. Can anyone out there in Pharo-land test SMTPClient against a server that requires authentication? I'd really like to be able to send notifications via email. I've certainly put in my best effort to get it working. You can send messages #user: and #password: to a SMTPClient instance. The methods are defined in the indirect superclass ProtocolClient. Fastest matrix implementation?

Hi list In the context of a scientific project here we are building big matrices for later processing, mostly exporting to custom file formats for PLINK, HaploView, etc (bioinformatics tools). I've tested one of our scripts in both Pharo 1.1 (not CogVM) with the corresponding Python 2.6 implementation (without PyPy), and the performance in Python was superior, about 8x faster than ST. So I wonder if anyone knows the fastest (or a faster) implementation of Matrix than the included by default in Collections? what about using Seaside XUL ? I remember Esteban Lorenzano doing a desktop app that way in Pharo. Thanks for the quick response Sean, but I'm looking for a cross-platform solution and as far as I can see Mars is targeted at mac. Native Windows in Pharo

Hi list! I think I finally can start a small in-house project in Pharo, which makes me quite happy since I've been willing to do so for some time now. I have however to solve an issue before: is there a way of using native windows instead of the emulated ones? The app I have to work on is pretty much based on having different independent windows floating around :( . I saw the Native Windows thread that dates back to 2009 and couldn't find more information on the subject, so any pointers are much appreciated. Thanks in advance! AndrÃ©s

[Pharo] Checkbox

Hi, I have a problem with checkboxes. I'm trying to add a checkbox at each line of a table. I have tried several things(the last tries are in comments): addActionColumn columns add: ((WAReportColumn new) title: ''; valueBlock: [ :row :html | html span with:[ "checked ifTrue:[BibliList bibliCollection add: row]." html checkbox value: checked; onTrue:[BibliList bibliCollection add: row] onFalse:[]. "onClick: [checked := true]" "callback:[:value | value ifTrue: [BibliList bibliCollection add: row]]" ]]). Unfortunately, nothing seems to work...when I click on the checkbox, nothing happen and my list bibliCollection (which is an OrderedCollection) is still empty. Thx for your help alex
