Just a clarification of terminology - this is the standard interpreter VM, as opposed to a stack VM that provides the additional object memory and interpreter features required for the Cog jit on platforms that support it. did you have a look into build/CMakeFiles ? there is an error and an output log maybe you find some useful information there. Did you install the dev libs for OpenGL? sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev keep me posted, Dan. The Smalltalk code is here: http://ss3.gemstone.com/ss/Limbo.html. The C code is on Github: https://github.com/theseion/liblimbo. Functions: fork() -> LimboFork dup2() -> LimboDup2 close() -> LimboPipe execv() -> LimboFork Please ignore the hideousness of the code, I'm just trying to get it to work before doing it nice and clean. > >> Cheers, >> Max >> > > > > -- > Best regards, > Igor Stasenko. >

Following the standard instructions (no config customization), I managed to build a vm ! For some reason, no X11 support was built, but I now have -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 9349 Nov 24 14:15 so.vm-display-null -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 6278 Nov 24 14:15 so.vm-sound-null -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 894438 Nov 24 14:15 squeakvm and I can run headless Pharo 1.4 doing HTTP and stuff. I guess I'll have to study the build process and options a bit more. I would like to have at least X11 support, but reducing the builtin plugins to have a smaller executable interests me too. Thanks again for the help. Sven -- Sven Van Caekenberghe http://stfx.eu Smalltalk is the Red Pill

[Pharo-project] Athens OpenGL backend - what does it mean?

by Sebastian Nozzi

Hello Pharo Devs, I am really excited about the direction Pharo is taking regarding many areas - one of them being the graphics. I played with Athens a bit and it's cool to see anti-aliased vectror graphics coming to Pharo. I keep reading about a possible OpenGL back-end in the future... what would this mean exactly? For years I have been "dreaming" about graphic-accelerated "eye-candy" effects inside of the Smalltalk environment. Like compiz-fusion effects in Linux, or Quartz-Extreme powerded in OS-X (Exposé, etc.). Would this be possible with such a back-end? Or am I misinterpreting things? I'm not a graphic-dev expert. Best regards, Sebastian

Re: [Pharo-project] NativeBoost callbacks - status?

by Igor Stasenko

okay, seems like i found why: NBExternalAddress>>ulongAt: zeroBasedOffset put: value "Store unsigned 64-bit integer into memory at (receiver's address + ZERO-based offset) using native byte order. Note, there is no range checking " It should use 32-bit values.. Callback code using ulongAt:put. to store single value at certain address in machine code. Since it stores 64-bit value instead of 32bit, it overrides the instructions which follow, and of course that leads to crash. Trait aliases.. is wrong: #longAt:->#nbInt64AtOffset:. #longAt:put:->#nbInt64AtOffset:put:. #ulongAt:->#nbUInt64AtOffset:. #ulongAt:put:->#nbUInt64AtOffset:put: another reason to get rid of confusion with C types.. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko.

[Pharo-project] Smalltalkhub

by Nicolas Petton

Hi guys! I was a bit off the last 3 days, I was in Paris with Stef (so romantic :-p) and didn't have much time to follow the thread on Smalltalkhub that much. Just to let you know, I'm working on the next upgrade. In randon order, here's some features that will be part of the upgrade: - Several people reported issues (thanks!), and they will be fixed - As an addition to user centric projects, the concept of team will be introduced - Project owners will be able to decide if a project is - Public (read/write) (users will still have to be authentified to commit) - Read-only - Private - A better search (if I have enough time) - A "real" homepage (again, if I have time) The next iteration on it should be focused on contributing: - One public inbox per project - The ability to "copy" a repo (similar to Github's fork) - Branches? And yes, SH is opensource, people are welcome to contribute. Features are also open, and while some parts are mandatory and required by ESUG, I'm 100% open to ideas and improvements. This is for the community, not me :) Also, SH is still in beta. I will never flush the DB, but you may find bugs and want to keep a backup. The stable version will be hosted by Inria and I will eventually migrate the data on their infrastructure. Cheers, Nico
