Suggestion on naming: shorter names

by Sebastian Sastre

Hi there, I've saw this: https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W64 that you introduced: valueWithInterval: aDelay valueAfterWaiting: aDelay which is a cool feature. I only suggest that it could have shorter names. Using: valueAfter: aDelay and valueEvery: aDelay would make it look like: [Transcript cr; show: 'Hello World!' ] valueAfter: 10 seconds. [Transcript cr; show: 'tick-tack...' ] valueEvery: 10 seconds. In general, and when they don't introduce ambiguity or unacceptable vagueness, shorter names help typing, make the autocompleter find hits faster and unload the memory bandwidth of our brains Keep the great work! sebastian o/

Phil I can tell you that we will do our best to help you. We deeply want that other people can build successes for Pharo. We could be better and the systsme could be better but we are focused on improving it while at the same time making sure that business can grow. So do not hesitate to let us know if we fail so that we can fix things. Stef > I am using Pharo business wise. > > And making money out of it. > > It is using Seaside 3 and a ton of packages. Thatâs understandable I am signalling those things because I think they confuse newcomers even more. I was just installing Pharo on a new machine and I know where I can find those things but newcomers donât. Looking forward to the new website ;-) Johan On 26 Oct 2013, at 09:06, Stéphane Ducasse <stephane.ducasse(a)inria.fr> wrote: > we are preparing a completely new web site :) > but we are going slowly because vm and all the restâ¦.. > > Stef > > On Oct 25, 2013, at 11:18 PM, Johan Brichau <johan(a)inceptive.be> wrote: > >> Hey Sven, >> >> Thanks for these alternatives. >> I guess Iâm an old-fashioned website user :-) >> >> cheers >> Johan >> >> On 25 Oct 2013, at 23:07, Sven Van Caekenberghe <sven(a)stfx.eu> wrote: >> >>> Hi Johan, >>> >>> On 25 Oct 2013, at 22:55, Johan Brichau <johan(a)inceptive.be> wrote: >>> >>>> Hi guys, >>>> >>>> Just a small note that the sources file for Pharo2.0 (and 3.0) is not easy to get when downloading the VM and the image from the website. >>>> >>>> I had to finally download the âone clickâ and extract the sources file from its resources. >>>> >>>> I believe they used to be included with the image zips. >>>> >>>> cheers >>>> Johan >>> >>> They are in the vm directory when the vm is downloaded using get.pharo.org >>> >>> There is also a #downloadSources method in the image. >>> >>> Sven >>> >>> >> >> > >
