Updating lists.pharo.org: New server, Mailman3 and more

by Marcus Denker

Hi, We are updating the mailinglists (everything https://lists.pharo.org/ <https://lists.pharo.org/>) -> New server, thus: new IP⦠-> the server will run Mailman3 (we used Mailman2) -> There will be a better Archive I will do the change of the IP address today. The only thing that could happen is that mails send still via the old server will not be in the new archive, everything else should be transparent. I will send another mail when it is done. Marcus

Re: [Pharo-dev] sideOf: logic

by webwarrior

Better explanation: Side is determined with respect to line that goes through 2 points: origin and receiver. If receiver = origin, you only have 1 point -> infinitely many lines exist that go through 1 point -> cannot determine side. -- Sent from: http://forum.world.st/Pharo-Smalltalk-Developers-f1294837.html

Re: [Pharo-dev] is there a way to know when a GC is happening?

by Martin McClure

Hi Aliaksei, In VW, scavenges are done automatically by the VM, but all heavier-weight GC is controlled by the image, through a MemoryPolicy object. In the GemStone client for VW we provide a memory policy that discourages GC during times when our mapping dictionaries are strong, deferring it to just after we make the dictionaries weak so the GC can actually collect things that are mapped but no longer used. It sounds like you'd like something very much like this, to tend to defer GC to a good point in the rendering cycle. And "tend to" is important -- when space is getting *really* low, it's a good idea to go ahead and do the GC regardless of whether it's a "good" time.
