[Pharo-project] SecurityManager

Hello, I found strage behavior around SecurityManager. First, why security manager loads some secury keys at system start up? SecurityManager>>startUp "Attempt to load existing keys" self loadSecurityKeys. (privateKeyPair == nil and:[self isInRestrictedMode not and:[self automaticKeyGeneration]]) ifTrue:[ self generateKeyPairInBackground. ]. Second, I found bug (maybe) When I on WindowsXP under user with russion name SecurityManager>>loadSecurityKeys failed. Reason is SecurityManager>>primSecureUserDirectory returns abracadabra system path. I inspect it. It is not utf string, It is CP1251 encoded string. And when I change method to not encode pathname secureUserDirectory "SecurityManager default secureUserDirectory" | dir | dir := self primSecureUserDirectory. ^ dir ifNil: [FileDirectory default pathName] ifNotNil: [(FilePath pathName: dir isEncoded: true) asSqueakPathName] to secureUserDirectory "SecurityManager default secureUserDirectory" | dir | dir := self primSecureUserDirectory. ^ dir ifNil: [FileDirectory default pathName] ifNotNil: [(FilePath pathName: dir isEncoded: false) asSqueakPathName] System started without failures. What I corrupt in system behavior with this changes? And most interesting question. Why all this SecurityManager stuff needed for system start up process? Best regards, Denis

[Pharo-project] PharoKernel #12217

Hi, I uploaded a new version of PharoKernel. It has several new properties: - better scripts processing - separate dictionaries for images, scripts, reports and downloaded packages - It is able to load Network, Monticello and Gopher (image included), however it needs some next fixes to work properly - ImageMap and ImageGraph included in the archive https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/27699/PharoKernel-1.2-12217.zip The most important thing that should be done in Pharo is to split Tests package to be able to load Monticello tests separately. If Monticello and Gofer will work well then it should be quite simple to prepare PharoCore Configuration to load the rest of PharoCore. Cheers, -- Pavel

Hi Johan, I would be very interested in your DB abstraction layer, too! It would be great if there is a way to get an early version of the code you plan to open-source? I wouldn't mind it not being entirely generic, yet. [Pharo-project] A small change to SPort

Hi, (This is specially for Janko) I made a small change to SPort, because I need to execute command shell scripts, and the functionality is not implemented on SPort for Pharo. What I made is simply this: runShellCommandString: aCommandString | processClass | processClass := Smalltalk at: #OSProcess ifAbsent: [ self error: 'OSProcess is not installed, you need to install it before execute #runShellCommandString:']. ^processClass perform: #command: with: aCommandString. I want to commit it, but I don't have write rights to SPort project... can you add this method change? Cheers, Esteban

If you really want some fun, charter a new usenet group. This debate will arise, and you'd think top-posting would freeze the Earth's core and end life as we know it :) That's w/o any petitioners so much as mentioning it. That said, again, it's not necessarily laziness - I have had two rotten email systems in a row foisted on me in succession. First GroupUnwise and then LookOut!! Both were/are reputed to be able to correctly quote text, but neither offered the options described. And the holy scripture was RFC 1855 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1855) "Content of a follow-up post should exceed quoted content." I think RFC1855-style messages still look beautiful, and they have their place. Tony this is not that simple. We hope in the future to have an infrastructure that lets us build better tools. Now I'm sure that if you help a community you will learn fast.
