[Pharo-project] Getting started

What's the trick to getting a pharo image up and running? I tried downloading the pharo-dev image 20231 from the downloads page, then I added SqueakV39.sources from a Squeak image. When I launched I got an error dialog saying: Error: a primative has failed. I was hoping to take a look around at the work you folks are doing. -- David Finlayson

[Pharo-project] Tagging methods for expected lint failures

I've looked at some of the "Message sent but not implemented:" issues that Damien created. In tests where classes and methods are created at runtime, Lint incorrectly complains. Do we use pragmas to mark the expected failures (see http://www.lukas-renggli.ch/blog/ignoring-lint-rules)? Is this lint pragma honored by the version of Lint that we use? There is quite sophisticated logic which caching the morph appearance when its in hand.. along with shadow. Gary, Of course :) You guys are doing a great job! I just replied to Sig, emphasizing the Gnome/Windows split on scrolling based on cursor position while leaving the focus alone. Gnome has it right. However, I would give priority to consistent focus before worrying about sending the wheel input where it belongs. Sounds like we need to add wheel events to the VM; then it should be easy to handle both (control-up/down for older vms, and wheel events doing exactly what is desired by the user). Gary, Watery2 looks better and better :-) Great! One question regarding the shadow: Now the active window has a translucent shadow (like macos), very nice. But it's turned off and replaced with the hard non-translucend Morphic shadow while moving the window. Would it be possible to render the same shadow, even wen picking up windows? Sig, The thing that caught my attention was keyboard shortcuts, but I mentioned the wheel as an example of something where some deviation from the mainstream might be in order. With the wheel, I frequently find myself expecting the input to follow the mouse cursor. Gnome does what I expect; it scrolls "under the mouse" and yet leaves focus where it was. There's another OS (will remain nameless) that is not quite as clever. However, I would far rather have the wheel input follow focus than suffer with focus following the mouse. Bill ---- Wilhelm K.
