I just noticed I'm getting this error too:
ioLoadModule(/usr/lib/nvidia-current-updates/libGL.so):
  /usr/lib/nvidia-current-updates/libGL.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

in the console, so it's a 32/64 bit thing. I'm on 64bit ubuntu, and I have
ia32-libs installed
