Re: [Pharo-project] Questions

Hi Kirk, I can't really answer your questions but I can say a word about the OpenCV issue: you'll probably need to write a FFI binding. See for example: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/2426. I started writing one for OpenCV a few years ago when I was just learning smalltalk, but I dropped the project without making much progress. I can send you what I did if you're interested (and if I find the code), it could be a useful starting point I guess... What is the best way to include C++ projects like: 1) openCV 2) an OCR 3) CMU Sphinx <http://cmusphinx.org/> 4) AutoHotkey 5) a screen capture and how does one figure out how to locate documentation on existing tools like: 1) Audio Input and manipulation by FFT for audio object recognition 2) Video input and graphic object recognition 3) Picture input and graphic object recognition Is there an application guide? Many project packages seem harder to figure out than classes like Dictionary and OrderedCollection for some reason. Any suggestions? Thank you. Sincerely, Kirk Fraser Clatskanie, OR USA

NewInspector was an attempt, I personally added it in Pharo 1.1 or so but I finally could not use it at all. I was like finger cut with this tool. So another version will have to be done first. [Pharo-project] Debug it from browser, menu consistency, merged Inspector

by Janko Mivšek

Hi guys, I just noticed that there is no 'Debug it' in browser's right-click menu, but it is on Workspace. It would be nice to be there too, and there is a place for it. But not need to add Profile it and Watch it in browser's one. Debug it is important for "through debugger" development style .. :) Second usability suggestion: please put Cut/Copy/Paste/Undo section consistently on the same place, or always on the top, or always somewhere else. Not on the bottom as is in context menu in Workspace while in browser it is on top. Same goes with DoIt/PrintIt/DebugIt block. Third: how is the state with merging Inspector and Explorer? Wasn't there already a nice tree-view Inspector in some older Pharo? Best regards Janko -- Janko Mivšek Svetovalec za informatiko Eranova d.o.o. [Pharo-project] Coral status & directions (was: Re: about coral)

by Damien Pollet

On 6 August 2011 14:36, Sean P. DeNigris <sean(a)clipperadams.com> wrote: > What is the status of Coral? Is it usable? Thanks. The syntax / compiler extension works fine and should not require much changes. All examples work for me, but it still depends too much on what flavor of the VM you have and is only tested on Mac. So, I'd say, it's useable for early adopters :) What's currently problematic is properly starting the VM in headless mode and passing it command-line arguments. This currently works with the Cog Carbon VM, and it should work with the linux VMs as well. I don't know about windows. I'd like to eliminate the generate-and-install-coral.sh step, or generate a script that doesn't hardcode paths to the VM and to the Coral image, or devise some way to install everything that makes it more practical⦠The problem is, different flavors of the VM don't report the same think for the VM/image/current path⦠There is a problem with OSProcess on the Cog Cocoa VM. I also need to check that the proper Filesystem package is installed, because the current ConfigurationOfCoral predates Colin's big refactoring. Now, for directions of improvement: I'm currently writing a (petit)parser for command-line arguments inspired by http://rubydoc.info/gems/cri/2.0.2/frames (yup, Smalltalk learns from Ruby, for once :) This will make it easy to write Coral scripts with options, flags, subcommands that respect well-known conventions for unix shell commands, properly check argument formats, etc. Eventually this will provide enough information to generate man pages, -h --help text, and even completion functions for bash and zsh. We're going to need some way to structure script code. I don't think we want an include/require statement to write scripts in several files, but there should be a way for a script to depend on code that is not in the base Coral image. Maybe loading parcels? The Console class provides basic access to ANSI escape sequences but this could be refactored. This will be needed for the next steps⦠â¦I want a text-mode inspector and debugger integrated in the REPL. I'd rather use trait. Note that in both cases, subclasses will be made deprecated too.
