I had exactly the same problem with the VM from Jenkins (even before I tried Miranda's build). Iit looks like my Ubuntu is indeed 64-bits (I don't even know how to check that). I'm trying to find admin for the hosting to understand if it is possible to run 32-bit programs there. But, from another end: Is there ready-to-use 64-bit Cog version for linux available? I'm not sure I'll manage to build it myself (despite the fact I did at ESUG :). 2011/9/8 Mariano Martinez Peck <marianopeck(a)gmail.com> > What happens if you run the VM from Jenkis: > > https://ci.lille.inria.fr/pharo/view/Cog/job/Cog-Unix/ > > ? > > > On Thu, Sep 8, 2011 at 8:31 AM, Milan Mimica <milan.mimica(a)gmail.com>wrote: > >> Are you trying to run a 32-bit binary on a 64-bit-exclusive OS? >> >> >> On 8 September 2011 06:48, Dennis Schetinin <chaetal(a)gmail.com> wrote: >> > Hi! >> > I'm absolutely newbie on linux, so I need help. >> > Trying to run cog on Ubuntu 11.04. What happens if you run the VM from Jenkis: https://ci.lille.inria.fr/pharo/view/Cog/job/Cog-Unix/ ? Re: [Pharo-project] 64 bit

by Mariano Martinez Peck

Sorry, maybe I was not clear enough. You DO NOT need to have a 64 bits image + VM to make it work in a 64 bits OS/Processor. All you need is the 32 bits libraries of the OS. Why do you want a 64 bits image? For example, here is a 64 bits image: https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/26274/PharoCore64-1.1-11196-UNSTAB… Notice that when using VM + image in 64 bits right now, we are NOT taking advantage of all its 64 bits. I mean, you may be able to make it work out of the box in a 64 bits machine/OS but that doesn't mean that the VM + image is using really using the 64. Maybe 32 bits of them are zero ;) Anyway, at some point in the future, we will have real 64 bits vm, a new object format/header, etc. But not sure it will be "soon".
