Re: [Pharo-project] NewTextMorph

by Fernando Olivero

Hi Hillary, the classes you mention were created by me when Pharo wasnt using the CUIS editors, they allowed me to plug them into Pharo, coming up with a text morph form scratch. Nobody used them since them, except me in Gaucho. So i've discontinued maintaing them in Pharo. I would suggest you to use the other text morphs classes (TextMorph, PluggableTextMorph, etcâ¦), which are maintained and used currently in the system. I will create an issue to remove them from the system, because now is confusing, to have more than one option. Hi Stef, It is not so simple :) Take this example from Moose: === LANNode methodDictionary collect:[:e | e timeStamp ifNotEmpty: [:s | s subStrings first ]] === LANNode has no author, so if you take the first substring you will have the date of creation. I have not a good solution, but for my scripts, I test the first character of the substring: if it is a letter, this is an author, else, there is no author. === ((myString subStrings) first at:1) isLetter === Cheers, On Nov 6, 2011, at 21:48 , Stéphane Ducasse wrote: > http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=4971 > >> >>> In moose ? because in pharo this is like that and the changes I added where just to make sure that all the clients do not have to deal with timestamp stupid parsing. >>> >> > > > _______________________________________________ > Moose-dev mailing list > Moose-dev(a)iam.unibe.ch > https://www.iam.unibe.ch/mailman/listinfo/moose-dev --- Jannik Laval

Nice presentation! I look forward to Stef's annotations and the video. One thing jumped off the page: the intersection of OpenGL, Sig and NativeBoost. It says "done on Windows" which I *hope* means that Linux and Mac are planned??? Being able to embed 3D worlds in "normal" desktop software would be huge (virtual reality/visualization, simulation, etc.). Question: does this suggest that NativeBoost should advance in the FFI roadmap? AFAIK, I do not care whether FFI, Alien or NativeBoost becomes the first complete FFI solution for us. I mostly want to see callbacks and some level of multi-threading. It would be nice if existing FFI method definitions continued to work, but that's negotiable. On threads, the most important objective is to be able to call into a library without blocking the entire image. If callbacks are not possible from such a function, I could learn to live with that - it's more than we have now. If allowed, I would expect that callbacks would be limited to the calling Process in some way. One could/should use queues, semaphores or deferred actions to make things felt in the UI. Re: [Pharo-project] About implementors and senders

by Schwab,Wilhelm K

Guille, all, When in doubt, look at Dolphin. It has the best IDE I have ever used. That's all the more true of 5.x. In Pharo, the way one gets to implementors and senders could be better. I am both amazed by the system's ability to find a method name in selected text, and disappointed by that fact that I have to select text vs. just getting a list of methods from which to choose. Choose senders or implementors in Dolphin (context menu in the method lists), and it provides a list (the selected method in bold at the top), and the locally sent/referenced methods below that. Dolphin also has a command that uses a text prompter to enter the selector, and it allows wildcards. Pharo's MessageNames/Finder tools do at least as much as Dolphin's version of the command. My only gripe with Pharo's version of the search is that I sometimes get too many matches; regex will probably fix it if I would just work at it<g>. Overall, Pharo is on course to do this really well. Regardless of how one obtains a method list, Dolphin does a (much) better job of presenting the results, mostly by providing sortable multi-column lists. Looking for #add: over the entire system can be painful, but #add: defined or used in a particular package or class can be very manageable. Dolphin makes that easy to see by sorting on the appropriate package/class/selector column. So, I think the whole UI has to be rethought (in little steps), and arguing about this is healthy. So, the places where searching implementors and senders today should be: 1) a text editor 2) a message/method list 3) an inspector ? 4) ? 1) In a text editor the behavior is obvious for me :) 2) This is the discussion in the issue. The browser asks about senders/implementors of messages sent in the selected method. The senders/implementors browser just browses again the message. I think that searching the implementors of #something while I'm browsing the implementors of #something has no sense, hehe. But the other behavior (the one in the browser) does not convince me either... 3, 4 and etcetera) I'm not sure about anything, hehe. Cheers, Guille

We should have a metacello browser and just to click on a project and it should load because it should be certified to load by jenkins. :) On Nov 8, 2011, at 4:36 PM, Sean P.
