Re: [Pharo-project] [Seaside] SqueakSource

by Tudor Girba

Hi Sebastian, First, squeaksource is free and it is hosted for free, too (as the main page says, squeaksource.com is hosted free of charge by the Software Composition Group, University of Bern). Second, it is old: it dates from 2004: http://www.squeaksource.com/ss.html This was a great piece of infrastructure built by some cool guys, but now it shows its age: http://www.squeaksource.com/ss.html Please do not blame neither the authors, nor the current people that are still trying to keep it alive: basically, a couple of brave PhD students that maintain the infrastructure (not the code) in their spare time (namely, Jorge Ressia and Fabrizio Perin). There is at least one other option that should be more stable: http://ss3.gemstone.com/ And of course, in the meantime, we are all waiting for: http://www.smalltalkhub.com/ So, all in all, please refrain from these kinds of remarks. maybe consider to mirror or move your code directly to http://ss3.gemstone.com/? cami On 2011-12-01, at 11:04, Sven Van Caekenberghe wrote: > > On 01 Dec 2011, at 10:51, Tudor Girba wrote: > >> Is it working? http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://squeaksource.com/ > > ;-) > > I know this machine has a heavy load, but the thing is that it often works OK for days on end (or so it seems). > Could it be that some (automatic) processes, like mirrors, ci servers, whatever overload it once it comes up again ? > > Sven > >

Re: [Pharo-project] Call for your input on questions you ask yourselves during merge

by Max Leske

Here's one (a bit off limits maybe): will my merge (or the commit) be readable by all of my images? Background: Monticello packages with traits are stored slightly different in current Pharo versions than in Squeak. This means that I cannot load such a package version that has been saved with Pharo into Squeak (actually, I can. But it's all a bit of a mess). The consequence is that I have to save changes to such a package from a Squeak image and then load them in Pharo even though the actual development would have happened in Pharo. [Pharo-project] VM freezes sending #basicNew to Stream subclass

by Larry White

Hi, Throwing this out there because it may be a bug. I'm running the Seaside one-click install on OS X Lion. Pharo1.3 Latest update: #13302 I can reliably cause my VM to freeze up and need to Force-Quit it from the OS. I'm implementing (copying) the probability logic from the blue book. When I tried to create an instance of the Binomial class, the system hung. I can replicate the problem by sending the message #basicNew to ProbabilityDistribution. ProbabilityDistribution is a direct subclass of Stream and I haven't overridden or modified #basicNew. What's happening is that it fails in the BlockClosure [anObject doit], but only when I instantiate a member of this particular class hierarchy. In the probability classes, a #doIt in a Workspace hits the line "self suspend" in the #terminate method of Process and the VM hangs there. I believe they had ProbabilityDistribution subclass from Stream because sampling from a distribution is like reading from a Stream, but I don't think any there's any actual shared code, so I switched the superclass of ProbabilityDistribution to Object and the code works fine now. Thanks. Larry

Re: [Pharo-project] [COTDC] 86 - TextURL

by Sean P. DeNigris

Issue 5043: Remove TextAction and subclasses http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=5043 Fix in inbox: SLICE-Issue-5043-Remove-TextAction-and-subclasses-SeanDeNigris.1 Removed TextAction and its subclasses, and all references in the image. Someone with knowledge of RunArray and RemoteString should check this. I removed code that referenced the removed classes, but don't understand RunArray and RemoteString well enough to be sure that I didn't mess anything up. All RunArray's tests still pass, but RemoteString didn't seem to have any. -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/COTDC-86-TextURL-tp4119838p4128775.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Pharo-project] latest VM sources

by Pavel Krivanek

Yes, I showed him CI configurations. I tried to follow them manually and I have two notices: - loading of VMMaker raises a warning window (dependency on squeak lanucher) - the generated archive StackUnixConfig-sources.tar.gz contains in cmake configuration full paths related to CI server so it can not be compiled out-of-the-box Cheers, -- Pavel On Thu, Dec 1, 2011 at 3:12 PM, Esteban Lorenzano <estebanlm(a)gmail.com> wrote: > Hi Pavel, > > you can find all sources in our > jenkins: https://ci.lille.inria.fr/pharo/view/VM/ > > cheers, > Esteban > > El 01/12/2011, a las 5:22a.m., Pavel Krivanek escribió: > > Hi, > > a guy from Red Hat owes me a favor so he promised me to create > official Fedora packages for latest Pharo/Squeak related projects > (virtual machines and images).
