[Pharo-project] R: R: R: [Moose-dev] numerical method in smalltalk

by Lorenzo Schiavina

Hi Serge, I got in touch with Davide Arrigo, the guy who developed SqueakFuzzyWorld; at present he is in Russia and he will be back at the end of the month and he will be pleased to send you directly the program application. The idea of SciSmalltalk is to build a library not a tool. Maybe some of part of your fuzzy operators you provide could be reused to be part of this library. Re: [Pharo-project] Pharo Dynamic play with Morphic UI Construction videos..

by S Krish

Obliged for comments.. as I turn in towards formal effort in this direction. * The major focus is on dynamic, real time update/ feedback on Morphic UI construction, which is lot better than UI Builders. * Customized Browser that enables the real time feedback loop, construction of MVP/MVC classes that are default when required. PS: As Igor pointed out now the tree view browser does have intelligent full width detection.. and uses when resized / expanded the whole available width. Re: [Pharo-project] Morpheas , bringing Morphic to Opengl (3d GUIs)

by Javier Pimás

Can you post more info about the context? Like you were executing, the call stack, whatever. Also, check that you have the opengl lib path correctly set going to system settings -> FFI. Also, some things I forgot to mention: 1. The generated glX functions list has wrong case. All function names start with glx but should start with glX. 2. I also made the library path a setting that appears in system settings. This is cool because before library names where fixed in code, but on each system can be different. [Pharo-project] Another GSoC idea: Esse, a framework for visualizing, storing and exploring ideas

by Dennis Schetinin

I would like to propose another idea for GSoC. It is inspired by students I mentor in Tver State University and is a part of their current term project. So⦠(A prototype of) "Esse", a framework for visualizing, storing and exploring ideas ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level: Intermediate Possible mentor: Dennis Schetinin Possible second mentor: ??? Description Simply put, this is a framework for building presentations of a new generation. Somewhat similar to http://prezi.com, but even more advanced in perspective. The emphasis is on supporting thinking processes, saving, evolving, presenting and sharing ideas. Technical Details A possible result for the project can be described as follows: - an unbounded workspace that can be visualized and browsed with a camera metaphor (including panning, zooming, rotating operations) - set of conventional graphics primitives to build presentations (like text, boxes, pictures, arrows, etc.) - a capability to put any morph in the workspace - creating paths for camera, animations - tools to control presentation and change it "on-the-fly" Morphic seems to be the main subject of the project at the current stage. Benefits to the Student The student will learn Morphic, practice in building GUI applications/frameworks, improve Smalltalk programming skills. Benefits to the community - Morphic, GUI improvements - Unbounded workspace conception looks great as a basis for future development environment - Looking forward, popularize Smalltalk by presenting some benefits of its live object environment - ⦠Best regards, Dennis Schetinin Sent with Sparrow (http://www.sparrowmailapp.com/?sig)

Re: [Pharo-project] Alien callback thunk as ExternalAddress?

by Schwab,Wilhelm K

Eliot, It turns out that I had already done the #fromInteger: game, but your reply/confirmation gave me a brief second wind. I added #asExternalAddress (doing the obvious thing given your reply) to both callback thunks and to GSL memory objects (handle bodies that have subclasses for vectors, wavelet entrails, etc.). I took one FFI call parameter from long to struct*. That was interesting, because getHandle asInteger was giving me a *huge* number; the struct* argument worked where long failed me (it's usually the other way around). I am now at the point of getting an error in a method being called from a callback!!! That's a nice problem to have :) Somehow, I have to figure out how to get one of my handle bodies wrapped around an Alien argument. Whatever I do will also want to work with non-aliens because I call (with some trickery) the same method myself to generate sample data. As Sig said, the debugger is available inside of callbacks - that's going to be a huge help. It's time to shut down for the day or I will hate myself in the morning. More to come. Thanks!!!! My problem is that I have a generated external structure that expects a void pointer (actually a function pointer). The setter sends #getHandle. I tried to hot-wire that by defining CallbackThunk>>getHandle to answer the #address. But FFICallbackThunk already implements address (inherited from Alien). Why getHandle? Is there a way to get an ExternalAddress that points to the thunk? Should I even be asking this question? :) I *think* it should be ExternalAddress new fromInteger: anFFICallbackThunk address Bill -- best, Eliot

[Pharo-project] direct object manipulation

by Francisco Garau

Hi - what packages can be used in latest Pharo to manipulate objects directly? I am thinking something like MorphicWrappers, NakedObjects or Gaucho. Cheers, Francisco

Re: [Pharo-project] Alien callback thunk as ExternalAddress?

by Schwab,Wilhelm K

Eliot, I have a lot of FFI code already written, so I am hoping to drop Alien callbacks into FFI, and a structure is being a real pain. I'll try you suggestion below, and then maybe alter the struct definition to contain integers vs. a pointer, into which FFI is making *certain* that I put only external addresses. After moving to 1.3, I had to tweak some things where I originally passed null pointers, and now integers appear to be required :( Similar forces might be at work here. CogVM, Ubuntu Lucid. Thanks!
