Re: [Pharo-project] Voice reader support for Pharo

by Goubier Thierry

Thanks for the examples, it shows really well how to interact with any existing voice synthesis system on the platform. Now I need to retrofit something to the Morph system; what is needed there is the ability to do a complete navigation among all morphs via the keyboard (Crtl-Tab in a morph window works) and, for each morph which has the focus, emit it's name on a braille keyboard (and a voice synthesis tool). The UI building process is far behind in Pharo and squeak. We are working on improving this. This is an old draft of the system. What we did so far was to build some experiences and learn from them. Now we are on the edge of getting it right. We want to - define widgets - reuse them and their logic - compose them - build a UI Placer tools (later this year) Benjamin started to rewrite most of the tools using this approach. For example the new dual change sorter based on spec is around 9 simple methods binding together two simple change sorter. We will start now an experience with people not knowing the system to see if they can build simple UI such as Monticello browser. And we will refine the approach. There are Xes all over the map. What is needed for getting Xes to last is money for funding maintenance, growth, and marketing (and preferably a market). And some benevolent dictatorship. (A reason why I got my own business since 2000.) Java has got that right I think. Not that we want another 21st century COBOL ;-) Philippe 2012/4/1 Marcus Denker <marcus.denker(a)inria.fr> > > > > > PS: note that we are not waiting for Spoon.
