Mariano, This downtime won't get us out of the woods ... there's something funky going on with i/o, but it should help a bit ... Indeed. That was the idea for 1.4 but we didn't have time. > I can not wait to see a Pharo > image without the Compiler ;-) > > In fact that was one of the things Stef had in mind when he decided to support and push Fuel. [Pharo-project] Optimizations, Cog, cpu load??

by Schwab,Wilhelm K

Stef, I have my laptop downloading updates, running a vm and installing clunky windows software therein. The fan just started, so my reduced load theory seems to hold water. Something in what has been done in the image and/or vm has allowed things that once would cause my laptop to heat up to run w/o need of the fan. The fan *could* have quit, but that is now clearly not the case. Pharo is getting better. Bill

[Pharo-project] SS3 downtime - today 2pm PDT

by Dale Henrichs

We are in the process of tracking down the root cause of inordinate i/o delays on http://ss3.gemstone.com[1]. In the meantime, we're going to tweak some of the system settings and will cycle the stone. The plan is to cycle the stone this afternoon at 2PM PDT and the system should be down for just a few minutes ... if that will cause any inconvenience let me know and I'll reschedule ... [Pharo-project] Fuel and Pharo Kernel

by Pavel Krivanek

Hi, I tried the Fuel with Pharo Kernel and... it works well. It needs only very few modifications (removing of some dependencies). But the really great thing is that the FLPackageLoader seems to work quite well too. I do strongly recommend to add Fuel very early in the development of 1.5 into the basic kernel packages. I can not wait to see a Pharo image without the Compiler ;-) -- Pavel
