Re: [Pharo-project] font reading problems

Thank you for the welcome. I figured I was missing something. So, I see I can load my system fonts, and those can be any size. Very neat. Thanks for the help! Re: [Pharo-project] Workspace completion with Tab and Ctrl-q gone in Pharo 1.4?

by Stéphane Ducasse

first load ConfigurationOfNewECompletion (via the configurationBrowser). Second we will see if we can clean OCompletion to make it work with ECompletion instead of breaking it. We could ship the old and ugly version but we will see if we can make both happily work together. Some people like ECompletion (but could not use it in pharo because OCompletion broke it - I was not aware because I only use Ocompletion), some Ocompletion (me but I do not like the implementation of OCompletion that just copy everything and break - So I cleaned Ecompletion and started to make Ocompletion implementation nicer but did not finish. Hello, I am a smalltalk neophyte and I have nothing super constructive to add other than I recently dipped my toe into smalltalk, and stumbled on Pharo. Cog + a streamlined fork of squeak? Count me in! I started to work through PBE, but I just could not get over the font issue. On my massive screen, I needed a magnifying glass to read the size 9 font, and the colon issue made it impossible for me to tell if I had placed a colon or not. I discovered how to bump the font up to 12, but it still was not very readable. Sven's example above looks awesome. It might be nice to also include options for increasing the font size beyond 12 for those of us with absurdly big monitors. -Joshua Litt On Mon, Apr 9, 2012 at 12:16 PM, Stéphane Ducasse <stephane.ducasse(a)inria.fr > wrote: > sound interesting. > > > On Apr 9, 2012, at 2:53 PM, Mark Smith wrote: > > > +1 for Droid Sans (licence permitting) but I'd up the point size to be > more in line with Svens message. > > > > >

[Pharo-project] Workspace completion with Tab and Ctrl-q gone in Pharo 1.4?

by phil＠highoctane.be

I tried the 1.4 and there is no completion anymore. What to do to get it back? Philippe

Sven I started to collect material in the Draft/Zinc/ folder on pharobooks. Do you need access to it? This is now close to saturating a gigabit link. With an 8k response (WADwBenchHandler) we're now at about 7500 req/s [2] up from a about 6500 req/s. That's close to where the 2 byte response performance was back in February. Speaking of which a 2 byte response (WASmallRequestHandler) is now at 8700 req/s [3] up from about 8100 req/s. >> >> Apache 2.2.22 mpm_worker mod_proxy_ajp >> CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz >> Cog r2540 >> >> You can get the code in the Seaside-Benchmark package in the addons repository [4]. >> >> [1] https://gist.github.com/2339951 >> [2] https://gist.github.com/2339947 >> [3] https://gist.github.com/2339940 >> [4] http://www.squeaksource.com/Seaside31Addons >> >> Cheers >> Philippe > > That is great news, Philippe. > I like the WADwBenchHandler because it does dynamically create a 25x25 table on each request. No, I modified it so that it just returns a "static" byte array. I didn't want to benchmark any other code. > Proves that you can get far by optimizing really hard. > Another datapoint for those asking performance related questions. > > Are the rendering optimizations that you did something that will be/become part of Seaside proper ? Yes and no. The parts where Seaside code was involved are in the latest 3.1 code. The rest is a custom subclass of WARequest that only works for AJP. Moving this to Seaside would make no sense. The trick here is to use a custom stream-like object that gets reused for every request and to which I don't have to send #contents (because that makes a copy). It's tricky because AJP uses 8k packets and I have to insert a header and trailer at the packet boundaries. It would be simpler to do for HTTP because you don't need to deal with packet boundaries. But tight integration with the server is required. Cheers Philippe
