Re: [Pharo-project] Unresponsive 1.4 image

by phil＠highoctane.be

To freeze 1.4 on Win XP SP3, you can try this one out: | tm border | tm := TextMorph new. tm contentsWrapped: ''; extent: 100 @ 20. "this is the important stuff" (border := AlignmentMorph newRow) position: 200 @ 200; borderWidth: 1; borderColor: Color black; hResizing: #shrinkWrap; vResizing: #shrinkWrap; addMorph: tm. "this just makes the TextMorph easier =to see" World addMorph: border. Then fill in the TextMorph with some text and newlines. Then call the halos and resize the right corner for a while, especially letting it go out of screen at the bottom. The system will come unresponsive, not obey Cmd-. etc. Sometimes it comes back to life but most of the time I've got to kill the process. CogVM or StackVM make no difference. Maybe there is a huge GC going on but there is no memory display thing (manuia) anymore in 1.4 so I can't tell. Hope it helps. by recursive68＠gmail.com

Hi, When I try and inspect some FFI code in Pharo 1.4 on OSX 10.7.3, it fails and gets stuck in a loop doing this: MessageNotUnderstood: receiver of "addLast:" is nil UndefinedObj ect(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #addLast: Decompiler>>jump:if: Decompiler(InstructionStream)>>interpretNextInstructionFor: Decompiler>>interpretNextInstructionFor: Decompiler>>statementsTo: Decompiler>>blockTo: Decompiler>>doClosureCopyCopiedValues:numArgs:blockSize: Decompiler>>pushClosureCopyNumCopiedValues:numArgs:blockSize: Decompiler(InstructionStream)>>interpretExtension:in:for: Decompiler(InstructionStream)>>interpretNextInstructionFor: Any ideas ? Thanks

Re: [Pharo-project] strange logic

Putting a haltOnce in the method shows : MenuMorph>>layoutItems ... self items do: [:item | item icon ifNotNil: [maxIconWidth := maxIconWidth max: item icon width]. item hasSubMenu ifTrue: [item subMenu layoutItems]]. too much layouting is going on (here submenu layout is done even if the submenu is not visible) ... But may be there are other calls Is there a package/tool that trace all message sends for particular methods with stack trace ? Spy ? +1 for the descriptive names. Too often I see strange contractions that aren't immediately obvious, and or otherwise inconsistent naming (not just in Smalltalk), and it ruins the illusion of having a consistent whole :). It bugs me a little ;). It would be really cool if we could agree as a community to follow a well-defined naming scheme. I'm rather fond of this book â Smalltalk With Style Any thoughts? Thanks Benjamin :) Also really cool are: * dirty packages show red in browser - really nice... * commit to MC right from browser - sweet! * contextual refactoring menus * resizable columns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right clic on the class name, Refactoring> Class refactoring > Generate accessors . I guess it is what you are looking for (though I didn't do it yet). Nautilus is really a cool browser , congrats Benjamin :-) I especially like the Group view , very useful Having a chasing senders/implementors browser like the refactoring browser have would be top. Having the annotation line telling in wich changeset the method is would be cool too. Each Pharo release gets better .
