[Pharo-project] How to declare Zinc/FS dependency in Metacello Configuration for 1.4

by Francois Stephany

I'm updating some Metacello configurations and I'm wondering how to declare the dependencies on stuff that have been integrated into Pharo 1.4 (e.g., Zinc, FS). Should I declare those dependencies into my configuration? If yes, against with version? My gut feeling is that I should create a new baseline that does not require any Zinc of FS. That becomes a pain in the ass when developing in parallel for 1.3 and 1.4. Is the only place where I can differentiate 1.3 and 1.4 is in the stable symbolic version, right? What are people generally doing? Cheers, Francois

That is the fucking point. No! Because really fast we will have a lot of Smalltalk code on github and we will have to have JSON parser to build tools. While we can simply use our parser. So I'm writing a parser not for us but for gemstone basically right now. > If after that, because the implementation is slow, or some other real > after-use problem is detected, then is the time to discuss how to better > address that specific problem. Thanks! I really want to have a look at your changes to learned. I cleaned the <on> <off> menu items handling. Now no string generation and string parsing anymore :) I let the code to be compatible and in 2.1 we can flush them. Re: [Pharo-project] Tirade!

by Dale Henrichs

Stef, It is starting to look like STON will be a good option ... it has the advantage of having an existing implementation and provides much more functionality than a simple literal array parser ... Oh and it looks a lot like Smalltalk ... BTW, I am still interested in seeing how Tirade would provide the same functionality as STON... I suggest that you take a deep breath and relax a bit:) Dale ----- Original Message ----- | From: "Stéphane Ducasse" <stephane.ducasse(a)inria.fr> | To: Pharo-project(a)lists.gforge.inria.fr | Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2012 2:52:05 PM | Subject: Re: [Pharo-project] Tirade! | | Give us a break! | | Stef | | On Apr 24, 2012, at 1:39 PM, Göran Krampe wrote: | | > On 04/24/2012 01:06 PM, H. Re: [Pharo-project] Tirade!

I do not think it works for gemstone because apparently they cannot access the parser or at least wants to make sure that you cannot write code that can break the server scenario: you are mean that you write a strange meta data that is executed on the server so I will take tirade parser and make sure that we get one that only parse literal arrays.
