[Pharo-project] Installing Smalltalk's (COG VM and/or Gemstone) on a NAS (Synology) ?

by Cédrick Béler

Hi all, Has anybody ever tried to get Smalltalk on a NAS box ? NAS are more and more present around me and I can't help thinking it would be a great smalltalk deployment option. Out of the box, PHP application can run. I think one problem is the multitude of architecture and that each VM needs to be compiled specifically. As a side note, I think we should focus on Synology and Qnap at starts. Let's take a particular example. I have a synology NAS (DSM 411+II) wich is based on an ATOM 510 (64bits if I'm correct) [2]. There's a guide on how to install third party application (from the raw setup to the app packaging) [3]. >From what I understand of the compilation process [3], the first step is to download DSM Tool Chain [4] and to use it to compile sources on a classic linux station. Then, once compiled, you move the executable to the NAS and it should work... Problem is I'm a bit lost there because, first I never compiled a VM and second, this needs some manipulations on the configure file (which I'm not at ease with). So, is there a brave experienced soul that could have a try compiling a Cog VM with this toolchain (my NAS is a pineview processor - D525)? Also, I think this would be even more pertinent with gemstone. I tried the install.sh but got quickly blocked and I'm not sure this gives a single executable anyway. But if the gestone guys wants to have a try... :) I can give ssh access for people interested if necessary. Apparently, SS3 needs an interface overhaul, again :( well, so be it. For the other reports, I will look into them shortly. Best -Tobias

Re: [Pharo-project] [ANN]: Vim Shortcuts for Nautilus (Proof-of-concept)

by Sean P. DeNigris

Guillermo Polito wrote > >> * a way to register shortcuts/categories to be attached to a Morph class >> by default > > Nope :)... aBuilder attachShortcutCategory: #Window to: SystemWindow. > Okay, I see them. The limitation of that approach is that it doesn't attach them to the appropriate domain, but to all instances of a morph. For example, Vim bindings should only be attached to morphs whose editor is aSmalltalkEditor, but replacing SystemWindow above with SmalltalkEditor doesn't work because the PluggableTextMorphXxx delegates to SmalltalkEditor which only attaches the #SmalltalkEditor category to the Morph. Guillermo Polito wrote > > I'll integrate them again. Already done, slice incoming... Guillermo Polito wrote > > You mean... to ban a shortcut from a morph? Yes, here's the use case: * To toggle vim modes between insert and command, I need "code-editing text morphs" [2] to respond by default to Character escape asShortcut by "entering command mode" [1]. * When they enter command mode, the Character escape shortcut should be disabled only for that morph, and a new $i shortcut should be added to return to insert mode, again only for that morph instance And here's what I tried so far: * include [1] in the #SmalltalkEditor category. This works, but then how do I disable it for just one morph? I tried changing the shortcut to $i (return to insert mode) [3], but that changes it for all instances. I though of a hack to try to send the keystroke event to the morph if we're in command mode, but that's ugly and requires digging into Morphic internals * put [1] in a #VimInsertMode category. Then I could remove it from just one instance, but I don't see how to attach it to just [2] i.e. "only morphs where SmalltalkEditor is the editor". It looks like I can only attach it per-class. If we were attaching the categories to the editor instead of the morph (which I think you mentioned in a previous post), it would be more flexible. [3] buildInsertModeKeymappingsOn: aBuilder <keymap> (aBuilder shortcut: #toggleMode) category: #SmalltalkEditor "#VimInsertModeShortcuts" default: Character escape asShortcut do: [ :target | | me isInsertMode | isInsertMode := Editor dumbbellCursor not. me := KMRepository default keymapNamed: #toggleMode inCategory: #SmalltalkEditor. isInsertMode ifTrue: [ me shortcut: $i asShortcut. target attachKeymapCategory: #VimCommandModeShortcuts ] ifFalse: [ me shortcut: Character escape asShortcut. target detachKeymapCategory: #VimCommandModeShortcuts ]. Editor dumbbellCursor: Editor dumbbellCursor not. target changed ]. -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/ANN-Vim-Shortcuts-for-Nautilus-Proof-of-concept-tp463… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

I need to adjust the path to the Cairo lib. Some cleaning seems to be needed as nbLibraryNameOrHandle is redefined several time. Or do I misunderstand something with the Trait ? [Pharo-project] Job Pharo-2.0-Numbered

by Pavel Krivanek

Hi, if you often download latest development Pharo versions from Jenkins, you may have a mess in the downloaded files because for all builds the archives and images have the same name. I created a Jenkins job that creates an archive named by the latest update number. So you will get something like this: Pharo-2.0-20196.zip - Pharo-2.0-20196.image - Pharo-2.0-20196.changes - PharoV10.sources link: https://ci.lille.inria.fr/pharo/view/Pharo%202.0/job/Pharo-2.0-Numbered/ -- Pavel
