Re: [Pharo-project] Differential and Integral calculus in Pharo?

:) Eventually I would like to get my hands on circuits in smalltalk, but so far I'm much more interested in Magnetism (Faraday-Lenz, Ampère... I would like to have those in my little program. We'll see) On 3 August 2012 09:55, S Krish <krishnamachari.sudhakar(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > Yes, I remember my love for Kirchoff's circuit laws years back..!!.. > > Electronics: > > A matrix <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_(mathematics)> version of > Kirchhoff's current law is the basis of most circuit simulation software<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_circuit_simulation>, > such as SPICE <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPICE> / PSPICE. Krish, Haha, funny that you mention that ... I wrote that software, called ADS (for Analog IC Design System), while working at Tektronix. That was the project that I cut my Smalltalk teeth on:) I started the project using the Tek 4404 in 1985. When Tektronix got out of the Smalltalk business (another story) I ported ADS to ObjectWorks. I left Tektronix in 1992 to go to work for Digitalk. The team at Tektronix kept working on ADS, porting it to the newer platforms over time ... The last time I checked ADS was still being used ... that was around 2005, I think. So it's had a long and productive lifetime. [Pharo-project] Jenkins down

by Sean P. DeNigris

I updated Jenkins to 1.475 in hopes of nailing the trigger problem and it is currently down. Please give it a while to restart and let me know if there are any problems when it does (we can roll back if necessary)... Thanks. This one is really interesting, because the way the menu is built in the Alt-Browser panes is exactly the same as shown in the Star Browser example. Now, if I could get the shortcuts to behave in the same way... (instance-based, tree selected-item customized keymaps is my target). Going from the existing Alt-Browser code to a Star-Browser reimplementation would be easy. (i.e. create a different view on each type of node in the tree). But not a complete class browser, please ! Oh well, only if you (a user), not me, really like it that way. However, I would consider far too heavy to have to built myself a complete tree of an existing system starting from an empty root; I find that package maintainers are doing a good job at it, and I want to reuse it. One more browser to keep in mind :-) Thierry -- Thierry Goubier CEA list Laboratoire des Fondations des Systèmes Temps Réel Embarqués 91191 Gif sur Yvette Cedex France Phone/Fax: +33 (0) 1 69 08 32 92 / 83 95

> Have you seen Doug Ways Whisker browser? Yeah! Whisker's stacking idea was cool and it was really nice alternative to traditional Smalltalk browsers. I'm sure you can get it to run in an older Squeak image to see it in action. Also note the Star Browser from the "old Squeak days" (TM) which was also nice. It allowed you to add classes, morphs, packages, objects, ... to the tree. This allowed to use it as package navigator, class browser, inspector, diagram browser, ... http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/2935 The main page has gone but you can find it in the wayback machine with screenshots from the VisualWorks port: http://web.archive.org/web/20070418140440/http://homepages.ulb.ac.be/~rowuy… http://web.archive.org/web/20070428161513/http://homepages.ulb.ac.be/~rowuy… So you could group diagrams, packages, classes, ... in one place. Yes, I remember my love for Kirchoff's circuit laws years back..!!.. Electronics: A matrix <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_(mathematics)> version of Kirchhoff's current law is the basis of most circuit simulation software<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_circuit_simulation>, such as SPICE <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPICE> / PSPICE. Interesting to have a interface to PSPICE as Tektronix had/ may still have in VW. Build it out of Pharo, we could have the challenge to Cadence..with their C++ ecquivalent.. Had an opportunity to see that VW stuff with its simulation of VLSI circuits running up 60000 elements.. and complex simulations.. real time. Cool stuff.. In particular, this browser already has the view source + class comment at the same time, as well as multiple versions of a method. I'll keep this one in mind. I'll try to centralize things a bit on the Alt-Browser wiki.
