Re: [Pharo-project] Spreadsheet widget

by Stéphane Ducasse

Hi hilaire I updated a bit the code of Hans. - remove clone - remove fractions:offset: to work in latest 2.0 - postCopy should call super postCopy. SpreadsheetGridMorph new openInWorld Open a new spreadsheet with "SpreadsheetGridMorph new openInWorld". You can enter numbers into the cells, and you may enter rules (start with "=", cell refs are written as A1, B1 etc). Currently implemented are +-*/ operations. The update machinery (which is the heart of a spreadsheet) works nicely. Would be good to publish the code somewhere. Stef

I'm migrating the code of Hans-Martin Mosner to load in pharo. Retry happens when something goes wrong, i.e. some exception is thrown. It shouldn't make any difference what actually happened. But testing retry behaviour is hard, I will think about a way to do that in a unit test. Sven

I just tried, seems like your slice improves your example, though I still get issues when changing the number of retries: ZnClient new numberOfRetries: 1; "0 works..." timeout: 5; url: 'http://an.url.that.does.not.exists.ch/foo'; logToTranscript; downloadTo: FileSystem workingDirectory. looks like it is still somewhere in the net resolver... strange

[Pharo-project] PasswordHashingFFI package - users should update

by Paul DeBruicker

Hi - I was using a basic string comparison in the #checkPassword:against: methods and I now understand that that is susceptible to a timing attack on some systems (http://codahale.com/a-lesson-in-timing-attacks/) I'm not sure these types of attack apply to Smalltalk environments or not but its not hard to implement a constant time algorithm. Instead of failing on the first unmatched character it reports passing/failing after checking all characters in the hashes. I think the new version is not susceptible to the timing attacks mentioned in the linked article and if you use the package mentioned in the subject you should update to the latest version. Thanks Paul

Issue with slice: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=7255 Yes, any DNS failure resulted in strange exception handling, IMO. This could indeed improve a couple more bogus situations. The following should work after you load the slice: ZnClient new timeout: 5; url: 'http://an.url.that.does.not.exists.ch/foo'; logToTranscript; downloadTo: FileSystem workingDirectory. Thanks for reporting the problem, Camilllo. Sven -- Sven Van Caekenberghe http://stfx.eu Smalltalk is the Red Pill
