Re: [Pharo-project] Issue 10219: Completion: enter on accept awkwardness

by Benjamin

I personally solve that by disabling auto popup :) And it fits in what Doru said. I have to hit ctrl space to pops up completion, and here, I know that I am in completion mode, so pressing enter is not breaking my workflow. Moreover, usually when I see people using completion, it's highly a lost of time. the basic case is instead of fully typing 'asString', they type 'as', wait 3 seconds, press arrow down 20 times, and finally accept. This is for me so strange :) Maybe it's because I have been through a couple of Pharo version with auto completion disabled because it was a pain :D Ben On Apr 5, 2013, at 2:12 PM, Sean P. +1 :) Even with my boiling brain, I learnt a lot, and I am really waiting for the videos to be available to be able to watch them to get what I missed :) (and spread this to the whole team ^^) Thanks again to Doru and the SCG, and also to every one for these cool 3 days :) Ben On Apr 5, 2013, at 12:16 PM, Tudor Girba <tudor(a)tudorgirba.com> wrote: > I would also want to thank the participants! Re: [Pharo-project] Pharo Theming: does anyone have some doc?

by Benjamin

With Nicolas Petton we are currently working on a new Pharo theme too, and fixing hardcoded references from Morph along the way :) We didn't find documentation either, but if you have questions, we will be glad to (try to) answer them :) Ben PS: I attach a screen of the new theme as it is right now (still a lot to fix), just to give you a glance :) So if you have ideas, feedback ⦠you're welcome :) On Apr 4, 2013, at 3:26 PM, phil(a)highoctane.be wrote: > I am digging inside the UITheme and friends and wondered if there was any documentation about it. > > Googled already but not much turned up. > > I've got some success in the PharoTheme (fill-style) category and now have a decent grasp of how it works (it is strange to find a ton of glamorous-xxx methods in the private category of PharoTheme but well). > > I want to do a high contrast/dark theme for my own work as it would be better for accessibility. > > I find the Darcula theme pretty neat (http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/) and use it for work. [Pharo-project] Fwd: Game prototype with Amber deployed

by Clément Bera

I forward this to Pharo project it might interest some of you too. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Clément Bera <bera.clement(a)gmail.com> Date: 2013/4/5 Subject: Game prototype with Amber deployed To: amber-lang(a)googlegroups.com Hello amber community, Eight months ago I met Nicolas Petton, discovered Amber and developed a game prototype with it. Recently Nicolas Petton asked me if I could deploy it to show examples of what you can do with Amber. So* I spent several hours reading / updating my old code, updating to latest amber version and I deployed a beta version here :* http://clementbera.github.com/amber/projects/easnoth/fight2players.html?map… According to my tests on Mac OS X, on : - Firefox it works fine - Google Chrome it works fine the first time (cache problem) with the *best animation experience* but there is a problem when you refresh the page - Safari it works fine the first time but there is a huge cache problem, so you need to close safari and reopen it to reopen the page. There is no AI, so you have to play two player on the same computer for now. Unfortunately I disabled a lot of functionality in this deployed version because most of them were not stable but only prototypes. Also, I developed that when I was a student and I am ashamed of the bad quality of the code ... *I'm going to refactor and work on it in the next two months to go to a true release* *at the end of May*. And I'll fix this cache problem on Safari and Chrome :). I let on purpose amber in non deploy mode so you can browse the bad code if you want to (and to show it is open source). This is my first use of git (I used monticello and svn only before) and the repo seems to be not correct. I will change that so the beta version link might be obselete in a few days. By the way *congratulations for Amber it is really cool.* Are the workspace DoIt working the same way in helios that in the previous browser ? Like you need to declare temp variables in the contrary of all the other smalltalk systems ? If so I'd like to hack in your compiler Nico to change that.

With enter-on-accept disabled, I'm really enjoying the completion in 2.0. I find partial completions extremely helpful. I don't think we're that far from where we want to be. Let's just define what's missing and get it done. ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Issue-10219-Completion-enter-on-accept-awkwardness-tp… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Is it that the delay is enough that you've already pressed enter? Or that you don't mind pressing ESC to cancel the completion? ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Issue-10219-Completion-enter-on-accept-awkwardness-tp… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Goubier Thierry wrote > I'm one of the guys which change his personal settings on any new 2.0 > image... To turn auto completion off. There has been a *lot* of work on completion as 2.0 has evolved. There are also many settings. If you're turning it totally off, but use it in other systems, please tell us how you would ideally like it to work and what you feel is missing. For myself, I find the following settings to be close to perfect: NECPreferences enabled: true; caseSensitive: true; expandPrefixes: true; useEnterToAccept: false; smartCharacters: true; smartCharactersWithDoubleSpace: '[]{}'; spaceAfterCompletion: false; popupAutomaticDelay: 100. The only thing I was missing (but is less important now that I disabled enter-to-accept) is promoting an exact match to the top of the list, and matches starting with the typed characters next, followed by matches that contain the substring (but not at the beginning). ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Issue-10219-Completion-enter-on-accept-awkwardness-tp… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
