[Pharo-project] Syntax highlithing

by Stéphane Ducasse

Hi guys I think that we should really change the following behavior. If I have an instance variable abc when I type ab is should not be colored in red first then when I type c get black It should tell me that ab is correct and only get red when I type abx I got this behavior for the kid book. Does anybody have an idea how we can fix that? Stef

I also recently added a handler that catches errors while computing the value, which prevents nasty loops in error handling. Production code should pay as small a price as possible when using logging. > On Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 11:38 AM, Sven Van Caekenberghe <sven(a)stfx.eu> wrote: > > On 10 Apr 2013, at 07:27, S Krish <krishnamachari.sudhakar(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > convenience messages thereafter also be the same api viz: > > logger info: 'This info' . logger warn: 'This warning' . logger error: 'this exception' et als.. > > Agreed, as long as you also accept blocks as argument so that nothing happens when logging is disabled. > > Sven > > PS: There is a small Zinc-HTTP-Logging framework in the image as well. > > > -- > Sven Van Caekenberghe > Proudly supporting Pharo > http://pharo.org > http://association.pharo.org > http://consortium.pharo.org > > > > > >

Logging is a simple task with bit of complexity thrown in with multi-channel, configurability, formatting to be included. Picking up from Log4J that seems to be a standard:VisualAge has adopted it as is.. Log4S * Loggers ( capture ) * Appenders ( stream to multi channel ) * Layouts ( formatting with regex ) formatting especially in emitting the current timestamp and the class>>method automatically I feel Toothpick can be extended to the above and with clear separation of lean classes it can serve the enterprise class of apps well. While SimpleLog, seems equally good, but I have not used, seems to offer one more error level and similar appenders capability. **************************** One observation I have is for all logger libraries to adopt *same api for logging *error viz: logger level: #warn message: 'This warning' . ( category is #default and most often usable) logger category:#perf level: #warn message: 'Below threshold of 100 trans per second' . convenience messages thereafter also be the same api viz: logger info: 'This info' . logger warn: 'This warning' . logger error: 'this exception' et als.. It will make it easier to switch logging framework if so required in future. Re: [Pharo-project] Issue 10219: Completion: enter on accept awkwardness

by Sean P. DeNigris

EstebanLM wrote > And every time they make the same question "why is not like in [put your > favorite IDE here]?"... still today, I do not have an answer, that's why I > think is better not to provoke the question :) I believe that they only asked that because we didn't have it, so no one realized that in Smalltalk, where you often end lines with identifiers, instead of non-alphanumerics like in C, it is way more annoying to have 'String' completed to 'StringApiSetter' than to learn to press tab instead of enter. That having been said, like Johan I'm fine using my own custom settings, so how about we combine the following defaults with Johan's changeset and see how it goes: NECPreferences enabled: true; caseSensitive: true; expandPrefixes: true; useEnterToAccept: true; smartCharacters: true; smartCharactersWithDoubleSpace: '[]{}'; spaceAfterCompletion: false; popupAutomaticDelay: 100. ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Issue-10219-Completion-enter-on-accept-awkwardness-tp… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
