reflection examples

by Tudor Girba

Hi, I am preparing a set of talks that have reflection at the center. Obviously, I want to use Pharo to demonstrate reflection. I am now looking for examples that can be explained to programmer newbies (actually, managers). I am particularly looking for examples that include adaptation (not just inspection) and that can show that reflection is valuable. I already have some examples in mind, but they might not appear particularly valuable. For example: - inspecting a class: Object methods. - adapting a class: Object compile: 'answer ^ 42'. Any suggestions? Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Every thing has its own flow"

Camp Smalltalk Roadtrip!

by DeNigris Sean

(cross-posted to pharo dev and esug lists) Countdown to ESUG!!! My plane lands in Geneva at 1020 on 8 September. I was planning on taking the bus to Annecy, but apparently there is only one bus that Sunday, which arrives at 2200. Is anyone traveling that morning from the direction of Geneva who would like to team up e.g. share a taxi, meet somewhere along the way, etc? Thanks! Sean

Sticky Morph ?

by Erwan Douaille

Hi, I'm looking for "sticky" morph. I means, i would like an automatic alignment when 2 morphs are close both of them. There is already something existing ? I need it for the UIPainter canvas to make alignment more easier than trying to move mouse when moprh are close to 1 pixel. Thanks for helping :) -- Best regards, Douaille Erwan <douaille.erwan(a)gmail.com>

can you add a bug tracker entry? Re: [Pharo-dev] Put issues from cog issue tracker into pharo issue tracker

by Nicolas Cellier

Reporting bugs on fogbugz is not a problem for me. However, the main concern I have is about the efficiency of these reports... Will Eliot have access to these reports and use them for his oscog branch? Will David have access for backporting some common bugs to interpreter VM? Will the reports be mailed to vm-dev? After all, I'm not really sure how the old bug tracker was usefull for oscog or interpreter VM... But I have the feeling that the reports on fogbugz will be for Pharo VM branch only. I'm very happy if I can be usefull to Pharo. But I'm even more if I can be usefull to Squeak/Cuis too for the same price, so I feel the move a bit like a loss. Cheers Nicolas 2013/8/10 Camillo Bruni <camillobruni(a)gmail.com> > Nicolas Cellier, > Are you willing to report and maintain VM bugs on the fogbugz issue > tracker? > Since you already filed reports on pharo.fogbugz.com I think this is not > much of a change. > > thank you. > > On 2013-08-09, at 09:33, Igor Stasenko <siguctua(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > On 9 August 2013 13:28, Camillo Bruni <camillobruni(a)gmail.com> wrote: > >> thanks, perfect! > >> > >> that's very nice, now we have everything in one place. > >> Nobody besides Pharo guys touched this issue tracker anyway :) > >> > > if that would be true, i wouldn't say anything.. > > > > The truth is that pharo team is most active on it.. yes. I'm still not sure that is the best way to go, as primitives are scattered among classes and makes things far less testable. Anyway, we can talk about it during ESUG. ### Here's what I've been up to since the last WhatsUp: - Deployed a pier site www.legacycode.nl on DigitalOcean - Made sure pier can be loaded cleanly in Pharo2.0 (mostly Diego's work) - And Pier kernels can be loaded and saved as code, so Sven's tutorial on deploying your first Pharo web site can also work with Pier ### What's next, until 2013-08-31 (*): - preparing esug presentations with Diego - prepare pier documentation on deploying a pier site with nginx on digitalocean - find out if it is easy to get Torch running on Pharo 3 Stephan
