Re: [Pharo-dev] PharoLauncher as the default Pharo download on pharo.org?

by kilon alios

Definetly yesssssssss I use the launcher all the time , I love it, And why macos only, works on windows like a charm too. No problem on Linux either. Frankly pharo is the first language I use that comes with an installer like this. Definetly this need to be promoted out there. It also shows the power of images and why we love them. I have not run into any kinda a bug with it apart from 1. When the servers were down instead of saying "sorry cant found the servers" it kept trying and trying to download in an infinite loops and I had to force quit it. I see no reason why PharoLauncher could be integrated inside pharo. I have to say though I would love for someone to fix the update process too, the whole deal of dowloading the latest release and then installing from scratch all my third party libraries is killing my inner child. Probably I should make a configuration of my setup, but still, I would love to click "update" and automagically get updated to latest version. I like the launcher, Iâll use it for sure by myself even though it will not be part of the standard Pharo distro. yes, I added pharo-vm, but now we have to wait until is updated :) On 19 Dec 2013, at 22:42, kilon alios <kilon.alios(a)gmail.com> wrote: > nice 100% smalltalk, well done. nice 100% smalltalk, well done. But lets be sincere and add the parts that are pure C. Afterall Pharo is not exactly 100% Smalltalk , hehe. Yes VM should be part of the deal too. Re: [Pharo-dev] gtinspector deconstructed

by Tudor Girba

That is a good observation :). You do not like the underscore, or the "sel" entry? If you talk about the underscore, I just wanted a way to distinguish between special variables. You also see the same "notation" in the debugger (variables like _self and _thisContext). If you talk about the entry altogether, this part is more experimental. Some people did not like the printout in the comment, and then I added _self to show the print string next to it. I am still not decided on showing it. What do other think about it? PackageTreeNautilus (undestroyable?)

by Nicolai Hess

Hi, I recently noticed a awful big number of Announcer instances (thousends). I traced them back to PackageTreeNautilus. I closed the unsaved image and reopened pharo. I couldn't reproduce this but found out, that if you opened Nautilus once, there will allways be one instance of PackageTreeNautilus even if you close all windows. How to reproduce: Load a freshly image. Announcer allInstances size.-> 155 PackageTreeNautilus allInstances size. -> 0 Open and close Nautilus. SmalltalkImage current garbageCollect. Announcer allInstances size. -> 1261 PackageTreeNautilus allInstances size. -> 1 This instance of PackageTreeNautilus won't go away. Is this intended? Nicolai
