Support for demos

by Stephan Eggermont

Iâve added an up to date build of a Pharo 3 version of the workshop image Iâve used at FOSDEM. The workshop itself was given with a Moose 5. Please feel free to (re)use. https://ci.inria.fr/pharo-contribution/job/Forum/ In a workspace, do FOTutorial open for the participant version and FOTutorial openPresentation for a presenter version with larger fonts. To see some roassal visualizations related to code quality, do FOBrowser open Stephan More tutorials, with exercises integrated in the tutorial browser, can be found in http://ss3.gemtalksystems.com/ss/SpaTutorial

Now that's the theory we need to make it real and this summer we will see... I'm a bit confused by the term 'big image'. I regularly use 1GB images with cog, and they stay responsive enough for development work. As long as there is enough free space that the full gc doesn't have to happen very often, it's ok. Current home machines work with 32 GB ram though, so I hope the gc can handle somewhat larger images? Stephan Eggermont

I access ZipArchive directly. It works. Never noticed it had a FileSystem interface. I use convertFromSystemString on the contents to correctly read UTF8 data. How do I decode it? No idea. I donât think that anybody used it after Lukas wrote it. So itâs quite possible that itâs not even fully functional. But if it isnât, then there are a lot of test cases missing (if there are any at all) and we should start writing some right now. [ann] presenter notes support for demos

by Tudor Girba

(repost to the correct mailing lists) Pharo workflow is best seen in action. However, I noticed that we do not have much support for demoing what we do. For example, if you do not record with sound, you want to add notes. I saw several videos with notes being added to the workspace. This looks clumsy. So, I gave it a short try, and built a little goodie that lets you simply type notes in the middle of the screen the audience in big fonts. Take a look below at a video describing a specific session with GTInspector: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT081uQlqI4&list=UU5uZoiH-YS7CIQ-e-DCwMwA (from http://www.humane-assessment.com/blog/discover-contracts-by-visualizing-obj… ) To get it: Gofer new smalltalkhubUser: 'AlainPlantec' project: 'Rubric'; package: 'Rubric'; smalltalkhubUser: 'Moose' project: 'GToolkit'; package: 'GT-PresenterNote'; load. It's still at the beginning. Right now, it is mapped on Cmd+/. Actually, it really is tiny. You can obtain the equivalent by doing this in the workspace: KMRepository reset. KMRepository default setAsGlobalCategory: ( (KMCategory named: 'Presentation') addKeymapEntry: ( KMKeymap shortcut: $/ command action: [ RubEditingArea new beWrapped; width: World width / 3; updateTextWith: ''; takeKeyboardFocus; backgroundColor: Color paleYellow; cellInset: 50; onAnnouncement: MorphLostFocus do: [ :ann | ann morph delete ]; font: (LogicalFont familyName: 'Source Sans Pro' pointSize: 20); openCenteredInWorld. ]) ) We need to advertise Pharo, and our videos should look good. Let me know about what other similar needs you would like to have supported. Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Every thing has its own flow"
