Yesterday with guillermo and christophe we spent one full afternoon reading all the recursive dependencies introduced when we just want to have monticello in the bootstrap (to be able to load code). In fact I pushed the work of Romain Robbes about service description in Squeak back then. I liked the idea that every tool should describe how other tools can use it. Now the idea did not take it. THe ExternalDropHandler is just for external file while ServiceRegistry is a more generic services. So I would probably keep and improve the generic one. Stef

Hi I wanted to thank frank about 16148 Select next method when remove one in Nautilus https://pharo.fogbugz.com/f/cases/16148 Now when you remove a method, you get to the new one and not none like in the past. I would love to have Move class to other package doing the same :) Stef

Confused about libFT2Plugin

Today I did a new pharo install (get.pharo.org/40+vm) on a server (ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, 64-bit with 32-bit libs). All went fine, as usual, but I was confused about the following: $ ./st-exec.st run-t3-proxies start t3-proxies Executing ./st-exec.st run-t3-proxies start t3-proxies Working directory /home/t3/pharo/t3-proxies Starting run-t3-proxies in background /home/t3/pharo/t3-proxies/../bin/pharo-vm/pharo --nodisplay /home/t3/pharo/t3-proxies/t3-proxies.image /home/t3/pharo/t3-proxies/run-t3-proxies.st ioLoadModule(/home/t3/pharo/bin/pharo-vm/libFT2Plugin.so): libfreetype.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Why is freetype needed/accessed for a headless image (that otherwise runs happily) ? Other operations (building, saving, ..) do not produce the error/warning. Sven

Binding a UDP Socket to a specific interface

Today we spent some time figuring out how to bind a UDP Socket to a specific interface, as opposed to any or 0.0.0.0. This special case is needed when a server holds multiple IP addresses. If you do not bind to a specific one, you will of course still receive incoming datagrams on any interface, but when you answer you could use a different server source address than the one the client sent to in the first place. That might lead to trouble, as it did for us. We had to read through the (Linux) socket plugin code [1] to figure this out (and it might not work on other platforms). It turns out that Socket>>#primSocket: aHandle listenOn: portNumber backlogSize: backlog interface: ifAddr does not just work for TCP but also for UDP (we left backlog size to 1, it is not used).
