Here is what I did (basically the same steps you described): 0) downloaded pharo0.1core-10191 1) commented out #setupDefaultFallbackFont and #localeChanged as you did ( _prior_ to the loading of mcz) 2) Performed a doIt: MczInstaller installStream: (HTTPSocket httpGet: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/RussianSupport/RussianSupport-dao.13.mcz' ). Locale switchToID: (LocaleID isoLanguage: 'ru'). It executed cleanly - no walkbacks. 3) Set default and code fonts to arial 4) Opened workspace - and checked if I can enter Russian there (yes, I can). Copy/paste is not working yet - as I said before. 5) Saved a file with a short test string using a russian text as its filename 6) Opened it in workspace using your expression (I had to use CP1251 converter, because notepad happens to save text in this encoding on WindowsXP) So, I'm not going to say it is flawless, but I could make it work. (See the attached screenshot) RussianEnvironment was not part of the base image (or etoys image or any other), because I was not sure that the underlying infrastructure is stable. One distinction I understand is that this site is for Users, not developers. So there are not planned to be too many links back to the dev site. The idea is to have it self consistent without too many external links. If we had a decent place to host the files that would be ideal. I'm not sure we have any true Pharo users yet (who are not core developers) but the idea was that the FAQ on the new site would be different. Hence it not having any enries yet.... ;-) I suspect if we get some momentum we will also want a user mailing list separate from the dev list. we would then gather the user's faqs... thanks for the feedback Mike

[Pharo-project] Website remarks

I really like the website. You should try not to offend the Squeak community. For the download page, you should change the link to make it point to the google code downloads page instead of gforge. There is no syntax highlighting on the screenshot. On the Organization page, you should add links to the License and mailing list pages. MailingList is written without a space on the Community page. For Sophie I took the tactic of recording the details of the font files that were loaded, on restart we just would re-read the directory (a fast process) then compare the remembered files against the cached list. If there was a difference we would just resolve which were added, changed or deleted and update our list. Here is a change set that adds an "Update" button to the font list dialog. I have never created a change set before, or submitted anything for that matter. I used my full name (not initials), but don't know if I am supposed to do anything else. I like not re-scanning unless you need to, but I bet it might break if the Fonts have NEVER been loaded...I'll have to think about how to test that. You still need to remove FreeTypeFontProvider from the startup list as well... In fact, the FontChooserMorph looks simple enough that even I might be able to give that a shot! I just removed the #startup: method, and everything still works fine for fonts ALREADY loaded...even the font selection dialog box. Maybe just a button to rescan on demand?
