Hmmm... just off the top of my head, I think that would be Dr.~St\'ephane Ducasse The ~ is there to tell LaTeX that yes, there's a period, but it's not an "end of sentence" period, so don't treat the separation between the period and the S as a flexible space. [Pharo-project] Monticello15 file support?

Dear list members, As part of a data mining process I need to use many external files. File based developement is boring and error prone, as other developers should reproduce the same directory structure to load my packages in their images, etc. I can use InstanceEncoder but sometimes I need to view header information in files. >From this announce http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/squeak-dev/2008-December/133031… there is a claim of Monticello basic support of external files as packages although I've tested it without success, that means, the package was created but it didn't included the contents of any file in a directory with the same name as the Monticello package. Is that the intended functionality? Did I miss some extra setup or step besides hitting the "Save" button? (I'm using Monticello.impl-mtf.648 and PackageInfo-Base-mtf.70) And it seems too there's only one image with file support integrated (the "LPF image" : 090628-1523_Squeak3.10.2-lpf) but I want to use it in other images, namely Squeak and Pharo. My options are: -Ask for feasible alternatives to you. -Keep mantaining external files without taking advantage of image based developement. -Adapt PackageInfo/MCPackage to latest forked Monticellos (I'm not tempted with this at all, still I see no technical reason why Monticello was forked so many times...) There are plans to integrate the external files feature in Squeak or Pharo? Someone already has something "better"? Cheers HernÃ¡n

You should really first understand what Rome is. First: Rome is not complete and far from perfect in its current state. Second: Rome is a graphics context/canvas level abstraction of vector graphics, with subclasses supplying implementations for different backends. This way the same client code would work on Cairo, OpenVG, but also simple BitBlt (with some less quality). Just look at the current subclasses of RomeCanvas. If we "only" support cairo graphics we give up that freedom and applications would need to implement the portability layer for different backends. Rome is also already a relatively low level abstraction. Michael

[Pharo-project] Mac carbon VM goes to 4.2.2Beta1U

I've updated the Macintosh Carbon VM to include the latest changes for serial port logic which was driven by changes in the Unix serial port plugin. Plus Bert identified that horizontal wheel scrolling didn't work correctly, oddly it's never worked since I think 2002. People must not use those funky dual touch/action track pads on the macintosh I'd guess. I've added these changes to the SVN tree on squeakvm.org I've also uploaded the new VM as Squeak 4.2.2beta1U.app.zip found via http://smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html If someone other than Bert confirm the horizontal scrolling works, plus I couldn't test the altered serial port logic since I don't have a serial like device around that my mac would talk to. Promptly report any issues... Hint, don't forget to purchase your copy of ST80Docs or SqueakDocs on the iPhone to help defer the costs of my yearly Apple development license as you click thru to download the VM. 4.2.2b1 We update system to 10.6.1 and newest xCode Build powerpc VM with gcc 4.0 Run Static Analyser FilePlugin.c SetVMPathFromApplicationDirectory memory leak from vmPathString NSCursorWrappers.m fix memory leak, bitmap, image sqMacMain.c fixupNonAbsolutePath memory leak from resourcePathString sqMacNSPluginUILogic2.c handle_CMD_SHARED_MEMORY memory leak from colorspace sqmacUIEventsUniversal.c Bert reported scroll wheel movement was wrong.
