Something like the following example could work, though there are a few rough edges at present in terms of caret position and editing (I've only used the treansform bit to change case of strings, for instance, which behaves reasonably)... Parcels are at core another pickling format, but one that is very much faster than standard approaches. My comparisons of BOSS (VW's Binary Object Storage System, very similar to ReferenceStream et al) and Parcels showed parcels to be 4 times faster than BOSS. Basically you get out of a parcel what you put in, and in VW parcels get code put in them. But you can put arbitrary objects in parcels. Two object spaces are running (aka images) and one of them accesses the other one through mirrors. Speaking of which, the mirror paper by Dave Ungar and Gilad Bracha is all about separating development capabilities (ie reflection) from the domain objects of your application. Mirrors unify all kinds of code manipulation in one API, if Pharo had mirrors you could use the code browser to manipulate code in the same as well as any other image. --AA
