[Pharo-project] Printing hexadecimal values of a string

Hello all, I get a strange behaviour while trying to print hexadecimal values of a string. Context: I get a SHA1 hash from a binary stream, store it into a string, and I want to display that string (using asHex). Problem: for values inferior to 16, the leading zero is ignored. (15 -> 'F' instead of '0F'). I could modify SmallInteger>>printStringBase: to always include the leading zero, but I fear I'm going to break a lot of code doing that. Is there a better way to fix my problem? apart from using directly the following: aStream do:[:val | val printStringBase:16 nDigits:2] Best regards, Geoffroy

Two thoughts: 1. this is a broad range of very specialized topics - are you really serious that you want to do all of these things as part of one project? 2. there are specialized languages and tools for doing a lot of this stuff, many free. Each item below will have an entire project or library you can use Certainly you can do any of this stuff with Pharo if you are focused and willing to integrate various libraries, but I think it is better to have a clear idea of your ultimate goal. Raster graphics: have you looked at processing.org or nodebox.net (also http://www.cityinabottle.org/blog/nodebox-opengl/)? 3D modeling and rigging: blender.org - check the forums there especially Ray tracing: http://www.povray.org/ Sound and music synthesis: okay I think Siren has been ported from VisualWorks to Squeak, I'm not sure if it will run on Pharo - also Pure Data might be interesting (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Data) Video editing - I'm not aware of many free tools for that. If you have the money to spend on the hardware, you probably have the money to buy commercial software. Text processing is also a big topic - HTML generation, certainly Pharo and Seaside excel at that, but again, what do you want to generate HTML from? Regexp libraries are widely available for every platform, including Pharo. If you're looking for an office suite, there is nothing like that in Pharo OCR, speech recognition, text to speech - no idea. You could build a Smalltalk wrapper for aalib (http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/aalib/) - that would be totally awesome :) You forgot Computer Vision - there's a project called OpenCV (http://opencv.willowgarage.com/) that has an urgent need for a Smalltalk front-end. Yes, Mariano, this is what we want to do. Maybe little different in detail, but the result will be the same: you can checkout XXX version of sources from repository and build the VM using same VMMaker which were used to build VM. Hi Igor. I really appreciate your work on this field. I wonder if you or someone could provide (in a future) the following: I would like to be able to download a PharoVM OneClick (or put the name you want), which is a zip with the following: 1) All the platform code of a version XXX. 2) All the src folder with the code generated by ConfigurationOfVMMaker version YYY. 3) Inside the platform folder, for mac, there is always a xcode project. This project file, should be configured so that it takes the sources from the src folder. 4) An squeak/pharo image with VMMaker and plugins loaded. And this has to be loaded by ConfigurationOfVMMaker version YYY 5) The previous image can also have a workspace with the Do-it that was used to generate the src folder. And, this should be pointing to the path ../src And of course, version YYY should work with XXX. If you can provide this, not necessary automaticallly generated all the time, but every some time, this would be awesome.
