I'd say that handling obsolete reference this way is very good! I'd put this behavior in Fuel! oh... I taught smalltalk for 3 years, using Pharo every lesson. During those years, I didn't met any single student that didn't tried to press enter the first N times to get a completion. And every time the student complained, until I repeated (often several times) that they should use tab instead.
