[Pharo-project] Investigating PluggableTextMorph - Moose to the rescue?
by phil@highoctane.be
I am trying to wrap my mind around PluggableTextMorph and its internals.
I am using the latest 1.4, where there has been some cleanup done (yay!)
So, PluggableTextMorph, TextMorphForEditView, Text, Paragraph,
TextComposer, CharacterScanner, Stylers (in Shout), TextAttributes etc.
I need to understand this for my little game based on text and attributes
(there is nothing like a 'real' project to cut my teeth on a myriad of
issues).
I wondered if I could make use of Moose for that.
There are things like in setText that use the textMorphClass instance
variable and I am not sure I can get structural information from
parametrized selectors and classnames done that way.
Would Moose be helpful there? Or am I better doing a Debug It (like I am
doing now) and drawing Class and Interaction diagrams ?
Truth be told I am a VAR of Sparx Enterprise Architect (and heavy user).
Maybe is it possible to have a bridge between Pharo and Sparx EA to get
some documentation done easily. I can import metadata through scripting.
So, remixing FAMIX/Moose/Pharo and some investigations may end up providing
some nice figures to help with PBE2.
So, tell me what you think and/or where I should go.
There are no reverse engineering tools for pharo but these should be easy
to build for a ton of things. Has anybody done an XMI exporter for Pharo
classes?

Where can I get this miniPavel image?
Google turns nothing back with that query.

cooooooooooool!
Phil you can also use the miniPavel image. I imagine that we will get a way smaller image pretty soon.
With Pharo 2.0 pointing its nose soon we will get a bit more incentive to restructure Morphic.
Then a bootstrapped image in coming along so time is cool

We really want pharo on Pi. :)

As an aside, I've been playing with Squeak 4.2 on the BeagleBone (headless ARM board running Angstrom linux), which compiles and runs without issue. The plate of esteban is starting to get full but indeed arm support would be good also for native boost I imagine.

To make things even more complicated, I'm actually playing with Fedora
since it's going to be the default OS for the Raspberry Pi. I'm really
hoping someone picks up the GSOC CogVM Arm project, but I intend to help
with this effort regardless. As an aside, I've been playing with Squeak
4.2 on the BeagleBone (headless ARM board running Angstrom linux), which
compiles and runs without issue. It's really fun to read sensors and

Other thing:
The debug console in Xcode shows an endless stream of >>STARTING SMALLTALK
LOG<< like mad, works for a while, I get a memory error and then a dump.
Check attachment.

1.3 Core but no 1.4
Anyway, the iPhone.image supplied with the blessed/ is not containing
ScriptLoader. Where can I get it?

It would be sad enough if we had to detect the distro and act accordingly :( A candidate for that is Ubuntu's integration of dynamic library loading with dlconfig. I think they have a good idea, but Cog goes to pieces trying to decorate the library name, when the module name as given is the place to look first. I would like to see other distros implement the Ubuntu solution, because it *really* makes sense.
It's really fun to read sensors and
blink LEDs from smalltalk, and now a smalltalk powered robot is slowly
taking shape in my workshop. :)

Have you tried Linux Mint?
