Hello, To make this easy to review and integrate, what is the best is the following 1) add an issue to the issue tracker. http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/list I did it for this already for your report (to not forget it): http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=6896 2) to take advantage of an automatic test robot, attach a Slice to the bug report After having added the report, this is easy. In a fresh image: -> do the change (e.g. load the .cs or .st) -> open Monticello -> Press the +Slice button -> put the issue number 6896 into the field and press "grab" -> select the slice and save it to the inbox -> put status to "FixReviewNeeded" or wait until someone else does it -> The famous monkey will load your slice and run all tests to see if you managed to break something essential. Integration (or rejection) will happen quite fast after this (within 24 hours often, within some days for sure). [Pharo-project] FileSystem class>>separator?

Hi Right now if I want to get the separator I have to get the FileSystem instance FileSystem disk separator I was thinking that it would be good to be able to access separator without going to the instance. Does it make sense? Probably not since the separator depends on the store used and so separator would have to delegate anyway. Stef

Hi- When I create methods using the Debugger's 'Create' button I am never sure which categories are used in the class I'm adding the method to versus those in its super classes. In an effort to not have to think about that any more I've adapted the ClassDescription>>#allMethodCategoriesIntegratedThrough: to put the method categories that are used in the target class first, then those in the super classes after that. I think this should work in Pharo and Squeak but I've only tested it in Pharo 1.4. [Pharo-project] How to use alien and/or FFI in OS X or iOS

Hello! I want to use the native UI of iOS for my apps(*) and came across Alien and FFI. I did a ConfigurationOfAlien loadMacOSX to see the samples and each of this samples reveals a MessageNotUnderstood exception for Alien>>lookup if they are called. No errors on loading the packages into the image. ObjCRuntimeRef>alienMethodNamed: is calling Alien>>lookup: This method was moved from Alien to AlienLibrary with Alien-Core-sd.17. A closer look into the source (in Alien or AlienLibrary) shows that the given libraryname is completly ignored and only IAB32 is used. The first use of Alien>>lookup is found in ObjCRuntimeRef>initialize. Completely lost at the moment, because I'm sure the samples have worked (someday), but the changes in Alien (moved lookup and so on) are from 2009. Can you give me some hints what I did wrong, or what I should do to give better information to you? Is Alien/FFI the right path or should I use an other package (which one)? What I did: OS X 10.8.2 with the CogVM app for Pharo 1.4 and the summer from the pharo-project site. Gofer it squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository' ; package: 'ConfigurationOfFFI' ; load. (ConfigurationOfFFI project version: '1.5') load. Gofer it squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository' ; package: 'ConfigurationOfAlien' ; load. ConfigurationOfAlien loadMacOSX. I tried also 'ConfigurationOfOldAlien' because this version has the Alien>>lookup, but then I have no ObjCRuntimeRef/Samples. Many thanks in advance! [Pharo-project] Aida with Realtime (WebSockets) support released

Dear Smalltalkers, I think it can be safely claimed that Aida/Web is a first Smalltalk web framework, even more, one of the first frameworks at all to integrate HTML5 WebSockets for so called realtime web apps. Realtime in sense that values on the page are updated immediately when value changes on the server, without needing to manually reload a page. You can see that in action from WebSocket-capable browsers (latest Firefox and Chrome) if you open in two browsers the online Aida realtime counter demo, click buttons on one and observe changes instantly in both browsers: http://demo.aidaweb.si/demos?view=realtime And how easy is using real-time in your code? Calling simply #update to the counter element is enough to be updated on all browsers which currently observe that counter demo. How this works? Behind the scenes a so called realtime channel is open between browser and Aida server. This WebSocket based channel is bidirectional and full-duplex, meaning that Aida can send back to the browser a message at any time. In above case a command to update the counter element is sent back to all browsers immediately after counter is changed. [Pharo-project] wrong FileSystem paths resolving

Hi, in a Jenkins job configuration I have this bash line for Pharo start: ./vm.sh "images/$IMAGE_NAME.image" "$WORKSPACE/support/pharo.tank" "$WORKSPACE/support/pharo.tankst" In the console I got this error + ./vm.sh images/PharoKernelTanker-2.0.image '/builds/jenkins/workspace/Pharo Kernel 2.0 Reload by Fuel/support/pharo.tank' '/builds/jenkins/workspace/Pharo Kernel 2.0 Reload by Fuel/support/pharo.tankst' ==== Startup Error: FileDoesNotExist: file:///builds/jenkins/workspace/Pharo Kernel 2.0 Reload by Fuel/images/Fuel/support/pharo.tank As you may see, the image argument is passed by full path but it is interpreted wrongly. Tanker uses simply 'xxx' asFileReference on argument. The problem is clearly in the spaces in the path (see "Fuel/support/pharo.tank" at the end of path). On my localmachine id fails too if I use "$PWD/pharo.tank" "$PWD/pharo.tankst" as argument and the path does contain spaces. When I have this files in the image directory (even when the image path contains spaces) and I use only names of this files without full path, they are loaded well. Cheers, -- Pavel

Both tests succeed.
