+1 My student tried to run it on Windows and Linux, stucked after few steps (after installing cairo to be more specific) on crashing VM. [Pharo-project] Getting Started with Athens

Any idea how to get started with Athens ? How I download it ? How I install it ? for now I have found this http://code.google.com/p/pharo/wiki/Athens and 2 other videos made by Igor. I am interested in making it work on win7 and macos lion and then after I play with it , I would like to contribute.

[Pharo-project] 1/2 hour

I can't believe I'd be the first person to find this, so sorry if this has been discussed before. I was writing some code today, using Durations. I've come across the hour/hours methods before, and so I know that '2 hour' is really one hour, and that you have to write '2 hours' to have the thing work as expected. It's a little strict for the language to do this, but I can see the logic. What doesn't work for me is when I write '0.5 hour' or '(1/2) hour'. Both will return a duration of 1 hour. In my head I pronounce this 'half an hour', so it's an entirely reasonable thing to write. Can something be done about this? Joe

[Pharo-project] Thanks for including Metacello infrastructure out-of-the-box

Just a quick note to say thanks ! The inclusion of the Metacello infrastructure in the image makes a big speed difference when building new images based on configurations. There is some code underway (I think it's buried in one of the issue) where I was trying to extract that sort of code and move it as a Keymapping shortcut. With the current TextMorph, it's possible to do what you describe even if the code architecture makes it a bit difficult. It remain to be seen if a really clean and simple TextMorph is doable. Text layout (compositing) algorithms are, in my mind, complex things. You need to invest a lot of time in understanding the code to be able to change or redo it. Would it be possible to make it abstract enough to be able to put non-character objects in the text? It's very convenient in some cases (figures, images, buttons, forms, etc...), and is a good test of how clean is the formatting and navigation code. I did extend the VisualWorks text editor for an hypermedia in 1993 and managed to include any widget as a character...
